BENNETT SCHOOL DISTRICT 29J

TITLE: Secondary Dean of Students

LOCATION: Bennett High School/Middle School

REPORTS TO: Secondary Principals/Chief Academic Officer

DATE AVAILABLE: 2026-2027 School Year

SUMMARY:

The Secondary Dean of Students at Bennett School District plays a pivotal role in fostering a positive and inclusive school environment that promotes student success and well-being. This full-time position requires a dedicated educational leader who will collaborate with faculty, staff, students, and families to support academic achievement, behavioral expectations, and social-emotional development. The Dean will implement school policies, develop programs, and lead initiatives that enhance student engagement and foster a safe and respectful school culture.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • State of Colorado Principal Licensure
  • Master’s Degree in Education
  • Minimum of five years of successful teaching experience
  • Three years as an Dean, Assistant Principal, Principal, or other leadership role is preferred

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Student Discipline & Behavior Management

  • Oversee student discipline and behavior management, ensuring adherence to school policies and procedures.
  • Maintain high standards of student conduct and enforce discipline according to the Secondary Discipline Matrix.
  • Supervise and ensure accurate record-keeping related to student attendance, behavior, and academic progress.
  • Monitor and analyze student data to identify trends and inform decision-making regarding behavior and academic performance.
  • Coordinate the Student Handbook Orientation at the beginning of the school year and second semester.

Student Support & Intervention

  • Collaborate with teachers and staff to develop and implement interventions for students experiencing academic or behavioral challenges.
  • Coordinate and lead student support services, including counseling, mentoring, and conflict resolution programs.
  • Facilitate communication among students, parents/guardians, and school personnel to promote student success.
  • Serve as a liaison between the school and community organizations to enhance support resources for students and families.

Supervision & Operations

  • Assist in coordinating faculty duty rosters to ensure adequate supervision during:
    • Class transitions
    • Student arrival and departure
    • Athletic events, school dances, and other school events
    • Parking lots
    • Commons/fishbowl areas and off-hour supervision
  • Organize and supervise extracurricular activities and school events that promote student achievement and community engagement.
  • Observe, conference with, and evaluate classified support staff as assigned.

Leadership & Compliance

  • Participate in school leadership meetings and contribute to school-wide initiatives, policies, and handbooks.
  • Provide professional development for staff on behavior management strategies, restorative practices, and cultural competency.
  • Assist in planning and supervising fire drills and support the district’s Emergency Management Plan.
  • Ensure compliance with all state and federal regulations regarding student safety and welfare.
  • Maintain open communication with the Principal, Chief Academic Officer, and Superintendent regarding school-related matters.

Additional Duties

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or District Administration.

EVALUATION: Annually by the Building Principal or Chief Academic Officer

STARTING SALARY: $74,000-$84,000 (based on experience)
