Position Overview
The Supervisor of Transportation provides leadership and oversight for Cache County School District’s student transportation system, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant operations across a large geographic service area. This role is responsible for managing daily transportation services, including routing, fleet operations, driver supervision, safety programs, and budgeting.
In alignment with Cache County School District Transportation Department practices, this position also plays a key role in coordinating and providing transportation services for the Logan City School District through inter-district agreements. This includes collaborative planning, shared routing logistics, and maintaining consistent safety and service standards across both districts.
The Supervisor ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local transportation regulations while promoting a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and supervise all student transportation services, including bus routes, schedules, and daily operations across the district.
- Coordinate transportation services provided to Logan City School District, including route planning, communication, and inter-district service agreements.
- Manage and implement comprehensive safety programs, including driver training, certification compliance, and ongoing professional development.
- Supervise transportation personnel, including hiring, onboarding, training, evaluation, and scheduling of drivers and support staff.
- Develop, monitor, and manage the transportation department budget, including fuel, maintenance, staffing, and capital equipment planning.
- Collaborate with district leadership and external partners to negotiate and maintain agreements for shared or joint transportation services.
- Monitor weather and road conditions and make real-time operational decisions to ensure student safety, including delays, cancellations, or route modifications.
- Investigate and respond to transportation-related incidents, complaints, and accidents; ensure proper documentation and follow-up.
- Oversee regular safety inspections, preventative maintenance programs, and regulatory compliance for all buses and transportation equipment.
- Utilize routing software and data systems to optimize efficiency, reduce costs, and maintain service reliability.
- Prepare and present reports related to transportation operations, safety metrics, and compliance requirements.
- Research, pursue, and administer grants and funding opportunities to support transportation improvements and fleet modernization.
- Respond to emergencies and critical incidents, including after-hours situations, ensuring service continuity and adherence to safety protocols.
- Foster positive communication with parents, school administrators, and community stakeholders.
- Manage the district’s white fleet, including maintenance coordination, replacement planning, and policy compliance.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge
- Federal and state pupil transportation regulations, including CDL requirements

Responsibility
Works under limited supervision in managing district-wide transportation services and inter-district coordination. Responsible for ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant transportation operations for Cache County School District and contracted services with Logan City School District.
Work Environment
Work is performed in both office and field environments, including transportation facilities, bus yards, and school sites. Regular interaction with vehicles, equipment, and varying weather conditions is required.
Experience
- Required: Job-related experience with progressively increasing responsibility in transportation, logistics, or operations management
- Preferred: Experience in school district transportation systems or public-sector transportation services
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred
- Administrative certificate preferred
- Relevant job-related experience may be considered in lieu of formal education
