Early Childhood Teacher Assistant – Pre-School
2026/2027
Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Elementary Principal, Pre-School Coordinator, and the Pre-School teacher the teacher assistant would be working with preschool students to successfully transition to Pre-K and Kindergarten. The student day in 2026/2027 is projected to be from 8:00-2:30.
Qualifications Required:
- An associate’s degree (AA) in early childhood education or child development or the equivalent; or A valid classroom CDA credential; or An existing 120 Hour approval. The AA and the CDA are formal training options that uniformly and systematically prepare staff to be effective team teachers in preschool classrooms.
- Knowledge of the Michigan Great Start Readiness Program
- Able to assess and document student progress
- Demonstrated experience working with preschool students
- Professional in personal conduct and actions
- Strong organizational, classroom management, collaboration and communication skills
- Demonstrated competence in the use of technology
- Active and continuous learner in the area of early childhood education, research-based instructional strategies
- May involve providing personal hygiene services and lifting over 40 lbs
- CPR and First Aid
Desired Characteristics:
- Experience in working with preschool students
- Experience using technology as an instructional tool in the classroom
- Knowledge in Microsoft Paint, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Knowledge of internet search engines, Google docs and other internet based applications
- Ability to work with various personality types
Duties:
Assist Pre-School Teacher in providing instruction to preschool students
- Provide and maintain an orderly classroom environment
- Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly and productive environment
- Communicate regularly with building administrator, Early Childhood Coordinator, classroom teachers, and parents on student progress
- Evaluate each student’s performance and growth and prepare progress reports
- Work independently and cooperatively using a variety of instructional strategies
- Ability to plan and organize; excellent work habits
- Successful teaching/coaching of students preferred
- Perform other duties as assigned by administration
