Job Summary:
The Sports Information Assistant works in concert with the Assistant Athletic Director, Strategic Communications to promote HPU Athletics through various communications platforms, perform game day operations, update and maintain statistical information, and produce social and digital media for assigned sports. The Sports Information Assistant will also coordinate editorial content of the athletic website, under the direction of the Assistant AD.
Location: This part-time non-exempt position is located at St. Francis School in downtown Honolulu, where HPU Athletics Administration sits.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university
- Prior experience in athletic administration with responsibilities involving media, public relations, or game operations; or equivalent education/training or experience.
Desired Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications or related field.
- Knowledge and ability to operate sports statistical software (e.g.,StatCrew or Genius Sports)
Other Qualifications:
- Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Visa sponsorship and relocation allowance is not available for this position.
- Report to work obligations to support the department and may require work during HPU’s winter break, if necessary.
- Must meet training and background check qualifications and comply with the Protection of Minors policy.
- Upon hire, candidate must have reliable personal transportation to facilitate travel between all HPU worksites and other locations as required by the position. This includes a valid driver’s license and a personal vehicle that is legally registered and insured.
- This position may also require driving responsibility for an HPU vehicle. Due to driving responsibilities, you must meet training and background check qualifications and comply with HPU’s Vehicle Driving policy.
- Able to work all shifts and extended hours.
- Successful candidate will be able to work in an environment that utilize excellent time and stress management skills.
- Regular, reliable, non-disruptive attendance is essential for this position as is the ability to create and maintain collegial harmonious working relationships with others.
Key Responsibilities/Essential Job Functions:
1. Statistics and Analytics (40%)- Chief statistician for sports as assigned
- Writes event previews, post-event recaps, biographical sketches and other releases as assigned
- Work independently on projects assigned by Assistant Athletic Director, Strategic Communications
- Communicate with fellow sports information and conference offices
- Runs the internet stream for assigned games
- Setup and breakdown at specified events
- Update athletics website and social media sites as assigned
- Organize, and assist with, community service events
- Assist the Assistant Athletics Director, Strategic Communication with recruiting and training student statisticians
- Assists with training additional statisticians as needed
4. Performs other related duties as assigned (5%)
- Actively participates as an effective member of team by completing assigned duties, accepting additional assignments or reassignments.
- Assists with seasonal peaks. [as applicable]
