ABOUT THE POSITION

We are currently looking for one (1) Manager, Apprenticeship Advisors for a permanent full-time role. 

 

The Manager, Apprenticeship Advisors (Lower Mainland) is accountable for managing the Lower Mainland Apprenticeship Advisor Team. The Manager works closely with the Director, Customer Experience to ensure that SkilledTradesBC maintains positive relationships with employers, sponsors, training providers, apprentices, and other stakeholders who directly influence the continuation and completion of apprenticeship programs. 

The Manager develops and supports strategic initiatives to engage employers, apprentices, and key partners on the benefits of sponsoring apprenticeships and the value of the apprenticeship learning pathway. The Manager works closely with the Manager, Apprenticeship Advisors, Regional, to support consistent direction across the two Apprenticeship Advisor teams.  

The Manager also works closely and collaborates with other SkilledTradesBC departments, participating in cross-departmental projects and initiatives, bringing forward questions and issues from the field team, and providing timely feedback that supports the successful execution of their work. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES

 

STRATEGIC PLANNING: Develop and support strategic initiatives to engage employers, apprentices and key partners.

  • Provides strategic management to the Apprenticeship Advisor team by setting departmental priorities and developing  initiatives, processes and plans to achieve them in line with SkilledTradesBC’s objectives. 

  • Provides ongoing analysis of operational environment and makes necessary strategic changes to support apprenticeship pathway, stakeholders, and community partners. 

  • Works with other SkilledTradesBC departments to support organizational initiatives and projects, troubleshoot issues, and bring forward perspectives from the field. 

  • Applies continuous improvement methodology to all processes, procedures, and systems to manage and deliver the Apprenticeship Advisors function.

 MANAGE: Plans and manages the overall direction of SkilledTradesBC’s Apprenticeship Advisors and Team Leads.

  • Under the direction of the Director, Customer Experience, manages all aspects of the Lower Mainland Apprenticeship Advisor Team including recruitment, development, performance management, goal setting and team priorities. 

  • Assists with and monitors remote location set up and operations. 

  • With the Team Lead, supports Apprenticeship Advisors on complex cases and escalations.  

  • Works with Apprenticeship Advisors and Team Leads to serve as a point of contact for apprentices who are transitioning through the apprenticeship pathway and provides regional advice and connection to resources that can support securing a sponsor.

  • Works with Apprenticeship Advisors, External Relations, Program Standards, and other relevant SkilledTradesBC departments to maintain and build relationships with key organizations, employer groups, local chambers, and other key stakeholders to promote and market apprenticeship opportunities. 

  • Works with regional service providers to build capacity and knowledge to address barriers to continuation and completion of apprentices.

  • Applies continuous improvement methodology to all processes, procedures and systems needed to manage and deliver the apprenticeship Advisors role including ongoing refinement of data collected.

 OTHER:

  • Occasional travel is a requirement for this position. 

 EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE 

  • Postsecondary education, and/or trades certification within demonstrated success in working within the apprenticeship system, or a related field is required; equivalent education and experience will be considered. 
  • 5 to 7 years of directly related leadership experience that demonstrates the ability to deliver results while maintaining constructive relationships and success working with multi-stakeholder environments 
  • Demonstrated success working directly with apprentices and employer/sponsors to increase continuation and completion 
  • A proven track record in project management is an asset
  • Experience leveraging technology to appropriately and effectively work remotely with clients and employees is preferred
  • Experience managing others remotely would be an asset

  • Knowledge of MS office suite is required
  • Strong knowledge of the BC apprenticeship system, or comparable provincial apprenticeship system

 

COMPENSATION

 

 Salary Band F: $107,011 - $144,780
