POSITION SUMMARY:

Assists the Association Aquatics Director/Branch Director to oversee the development and operations of aquatics, and/or other aquatics programs. Assists in training and supports assigned staff.   Aids in the development and helps implement high quality, member-focused YMCA aquatics programs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Act as a leader in program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives. 
  1. Assist with recruiting and hiring diverse staff and volunteer teams across multiple dimensions of diversity. Onboards and develops them for success. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete.
  1. Committing to support and further our equity-centered work as an organization.  Actively supports all DEIB efforts.
  1. Lifeguard and teach swim lessons when needed.
  1. Assume various administrative and coaching responsibilities relative to Blue Waves Swim Team. (Typically at Church Street location.)
  1. Managerosters,mid-session reports,certificates of completions and registrations.(Including registrations for BlueWaves.)
  1. Manages daily emails/voicemails to the Aquatics Department.
  1. Assists with lifeguarding, swim instruction, First Aid and CPR trainings and in-services.
  1. Assists in coverage and finding coverage for the pool schedules.
  2. Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.
  3. Assists in YMCA fund raising activities and special events, including volunteer opportunities.
  4. Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions. Responds to
    all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.
  5. Create and execute one new program idea per session/quarter.
  6. May include a summer off-site at a WSY summer camp.
  7. Position may include weekends and evenings.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High School diploma preferred.
  2. Six months to one-year related experience preferred; for example, as an aquatics supervisor or swim instructor.
  3. Minimum age of 21.
  4. Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, First Aid, Emergency Oxygen, Lifeguard Training, YMCA Swim Instructor certification, or equivalent. And any related USA swimming certifications.
  5. Committing to support and further our equity-centered work as an organization.  Actively supports all DEIB efforts. 
  6. Preferred Certifications: Lifeguard Instructor
  7. Completion or working toward completion of Y USA Team Leader Certification
  1. Reliable and enthusiastic.
  2. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  3. Able to comfortably respond to emergencies.

 ABUSE RISK MANAGEMENT

  • Follow employee/volunteer screening requirements and use screening instruments to screen for abuse risk.
  • Provide employee/volunteer with on-going supervision and training related to abuse risk.
  • Provide employee/volunteer with regular feedback regarding their boundaries with youth.
  • Require employee/volunteer to adhere to policies and procedures related to abuse risk.
  • Respond quickly to policy and procedure violations using the organization’s progressive disciplinary procedures.
  • Respond seriously and confidentially to reports of suspicious and inappropriate behaviors.
  • Follow mandated reporting requirements.
  • Communicate to all employees/volunteers the organization’s commitment to protect youth from abuse.
  • Report essential abuse risk management information appropriately and timely so it can be escalated as necessary.

Physical Demands: 

  1. Ability to demonstrate and perform all essential lifeguarding and aquatic skills, including water rescues and emergency response procedures 
  2. Ability to swim, tread water, and remain alert in an aquatic environment for extended periods of time 
  3. Ability to sit, stand, or walk for prolonged periods, including monitoring pool areas and deck activity 
  4. Ability to hear and see distress signals and respond quickly in a noisy and active environment 
  1. Ability to lift, carry, and position equipment or assist participants, typically up to 30–50 pounds 
  1. Ability to bend, kneel, stoop, and reach as needed to support program activities and safety 
  1. Ability to work in a warm, humid, and sometimes wet environment for extended periods 
  1. Ability to maintain focus, vigilance, and quick reaction time to ensure participant safety at all times
  1. Sufficient strength,agilityand mobility to perform essential functions of position and to supervise program activities.

$19.00 - $23.00 depending depending on experience, education and relative skill sets.
