    STUDENT SUPPORT SPECIALIST

    General Description:  Based upon the continuing need to provide support to students and staff in the most effective strategies to maximize student achievement and reduce behavioral interference to the instructional process, Cartersville City Schools is creating a position to directly oversee and implement the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) protocol.


    Minimum Qualifications:  Possess or be eligible for valid Georgia teaching certification; Minimum successful classroom teaching experience of 3 or more years preferably in middle grades education; Relevant experience and/or training in MTSS, 504, PBIS a plus; Strong interpersonal communication skills with a variety of audiences including students, staff and parents

    Key Roles & Responsibilities:  
    This list is not comprehensive but provides a significant description of the types of activities and responsibilities of the job.

    • Facilitates implementation of MTSS process at the school level
    • Maintains and updates online databases identifying students receiving MTSS support along with results of implemented interventions
    • Maintains a library of research-based interventions and provides effective teacher support for implementation of interventions through modeling, collaborative teaching, observation/feedback
    • Works effectively with teams to analyze student data to determine necessary supports/interventions, create and modify intervention plans, and monitor student progress
    • Determines and provides necessary training to support implementation of research-based interventions
    • Works with teams to support the implementation of the PBIS protocols and plans by regularly reviewing school behavior data and helping to identify effective interventions
    • Works directly with teachers of remedial programs to help identify and support students receiving program initiatives
    • Ensures hospital home bound, and 504 plans are created in a timely manner and implemented as needed
    • Provides appropriate training for teachers on how to conduct meetings, utilize appropriate forms, and collect necessary documentation
    • Participates in conferences with teachers, students, parents, and administration regarding student performance and progress as necessary
    • Assists with the administration of student assessments and analyzes results to inform interventions and monitor progress for MTSS Tier 2 and Tier 3
    • Coordinates with IEP and ESOL teams as necessary to provide support for students who do not qualify or are no longer eligible for these services
    • Works closely with the Instructional Support Specialist to support teachers in the effective use and implementation of evidence-based, high-leverage instructional practices to ensure Tier 2/3 students are effectively targeted with these practices
    • Attends and participates in school and district curriculum/instruction meetings
