Job Description

SWCA seeks a Talent Acquisition Director to provide strategic and operational leadership for the company’s recruiting and onboarding functions.  Talent acquisition is a critical Human Resources (HR) function that supports company growth and project delivery, serves as the first touchpoint for new employees, acts as a critical brand ambassador, and helps drive company profitability.

This role partners closely with executive leadership, HR, and operational, corporate and client services leaders to attract, hire, and promote high‑quality talent across early-career, technical, professional, corporate and leadership roles. The Director leads a high‑performing recruiting team, ensures compliance with applicable regulations, and continuously improves hiring processes in a dynamic, matrixed organization.

This is a regular (with benefits), salaried, full-time position that can be based anywhere in the United States. The position can be hybrid near an SWCA office, or fully distributed.

Please include a cover letter with your resume to be considered for the role.

Application Deadline:  Sunday May 3, 2026 at 5 PM PDT.

  • Serve as an ambassador for SWCA’s culture and core values, delivering a consistent, inclusive candidate and onboarding experience.
  • Represent Talent Acquisition on the HR Leadership Team and contribute to enterprise HR strategy, policies, and engagement activities.
  • Lead, coach, and develop the Talent Acquisition and onboarding team (hiring, training, mentoring, and performance management) to improve effectiveness, scalability, and problem‑solving capability.  This includes leading through changing business needs, fluctuating hiring demands, evolving compliance requirements, and emerging recruiting best practices within the environmental, engineering, and construction industries. Partner with Total Rewards and People Support to stay current on employment legislation.
  • Develop and oversee Talent Acquisition strategies to strengthen hiring pipelines for:
    • Hard‑to‑fill and highly specialized technical roles
    • Strategic leadership and critical skill positions
    • Early‑career and emerging professional talent programs
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to executives, business leaders, and hiring managers on recruiting strategies, selection practices, and workforce planning, while ensuring compliance with applicable employment laws.
  • Partner with operational leaders to align Talent Acquisition capacity and priorities with workforce growth, major projects, and key initiatives. Support full‑cycle recruiting as needed for executive, confidential, or high‑priority searches.
  • Own recruiting operations and infrastructure (applicant tracking systems, sourcing platforms, screening, and onboarding tools), including  vendor selection/management, contract negotiations, invoice approval, and budget oversight. Evaluate evolving AI/machine learning tools to maintain a competitive edge.
  • Partner with Total Rewards to provide environmental services market intelligence to leaders across diverse markets.
  • Promote the effectiveness of SWCA’s initial onboarding function, in partnership with operational and administrative leadership, to improve retention, engagement, early productivity and cultural integration, and to ensure compliance.
  • Define and track KPIs to assess Talent Acquisition effectiveness and drive continuous improvement.
    • Operate effectively within a matrixed organization, balancing enterprise priorities with regional, operational, and practice‑area needs.
    • Partner with Marketing and business leaders to strengthen employer branding across career sites, job postings, social media, university relations, and industry events.

Minimum Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive, full‑cycle recruiting experience, including sourcing, interviewing, selection, offer negotiation, and onboarding.
  • Demonstrated experience leading, mentoring, and developing recruiting and/or HR teams, including performance management and capability building.
  • Demonstrated experience leading, managing, and engaging a geographically dispersed, primarily remote team of recruiters and onboarding professionals, including establishing clear expectations, performance metrics, communication rhythms, and team cohesion across multiple time zones.
  • Proven ability to successfully recruit across a broad range of positions, from early‑career and technical roles through senior leadership and executive (C‑suite) positions.
  • Direct recruiting experience within environmental consulting, AEC, engineering, construction, or management consulting firms required.
  • Experience supporting organizations with strong employee‑centric, values‑driven cultures, with an emphasis on candidate experience, employee engagement, and retention.
  • Experience working effectively within a highly distributed, national organization, partnering with leaders and teams across multiple offices, regions, and time zones.

Preferred or Helpful Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, a related field, or with relevant technical degrees for SWCA (e.g., engineering, environmental science, biology, archaeology, or similar). Master’s degree is a plus.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and recruiting compliance requirements, including EEO, OFCCP (if applicable), and background screening regulations.
  • Experience leveraging  ATS, recruiting analytics, and talent market data to drive decision‑making and continuous improvement.
  • Strong presence with the ability to influence senior leaders and hiring managers, while operating effectively in a matrixed organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities in a fast‑paced, project‑driven professional services environment, along with an ability to main calm and focus.
