About the role
D-Wave is seeking a talented and self-motivated Quantum Engineer to join our gate-model Quantum Engineering team. In this role, you contribute the design, implementation, and testing superconducting quantum systems for our dual-rail cavity qubit architecture. You will bring a mixture of theory, design, simulation, and test experience that will help advance the development of large-scale error corrected quantum systems.
What you'll do
Contribute to one of many different functions within the Quantum Engineering organization, including (but not limited to):
- Design and implementation of large-scale superconducting qubit architectures
- Development of new devices and component testing for advanced hardware development
- Deliver and own production QPUs and maximize uptime for internal and external users
- Perform research on quantum control and calibration techniques for dual-rail cavity qubits that support our mission to build error-corrected quantum systems
- Drive pathfinding quantum error correction research for near-term and large-scale fault-tolerant quantum computing systems
About You
- Ph.D. in quantum computing or a related experimental field, or Master's degree plus equivalent experience in quantum technology development, or equivalent combination of academic and government or industrial research experience
- Strong background in one or more of the following: device design theory and physics, E&M quantum device modeling, materials loss analysis, cryogenics and wiring, quantum control, and quantum measurement
- Proficiency in scientific programming and data analysis (Python, Rust, Julia, MATLAB, C, C++ or similar)
- Ability to design and execute projects from concept through validation both independently and within a larger team effort
- Demonstrated initiative and self-motivation in driving research projects forward to completion
- Strong written and verbal scientific communication skills
- Strong teamwork and communication skills especially with working in interdisciplinary teams with professionals from other fields of physics and engineering
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with superconducting qubits and bosonic circuit QED
- Experience with standard E&M design tools, such as ANSYS
- Experience fabricating and testing Josephson junction devices, including transmons, fluxoniums, quantum-limited amplifiers, etc.
- Hands-on experience setting up and performing cQED experiments
- Experience with single-qubit and two-qubit gate experimental implementation, calibration, and benchmarking
- Experience with quantifying and mitigating limiting mechanisms such as system drift, cross-talk, leakage
- Exposure to theoretical or experimental error correction
