The Role:

 

Produce Wax replicas, inspect and mount finished parts in strict accordance with Engineering and Customer specifications. Produce Wax replicas, inspect and mount finished parts in strict accordance with Engineering and Customer specifications.

 

  • Wax Operator 1 operates the Wax Injection machine to begin the process of injecting melted wax into the die molds. Wax Injection machines have settings; platen temperature, nozzle temperature, flow rate, and injection pressure which may require adjusting in order to produce quality parts.  Some dies open automatically and some have to be assembled and disassembled manually.   All processes are in strict accordance with the Departmental Operation Instructions, Router (Flow Sheet) and Customer Specifications.
  • Wax Operator I must inspect parts for defects smaller than 1/8” defects at seams, air bubbles, and non-fill areas. The Operator must clean defected areas in accordance with Engineering & Customer specifications.  Inspection of completed parts and trees includes determining if parts are good and can proceed to the next operation or if they do not meet criteria, parts must be inspected and, if necessary, scraped by the Group Leader.
  • The Wax Operator I must mount the wax parts onto the trees in strict accordance with the Departmental Operation Instructions, Router (Flow Sheet), Customer Specifications and the mounting diagram. The mounting diagram determines the tree type, parts per tree, and part positioning (or mounting) on the tree.  Strict adherence to accuracy and uniformity is critical for manufacturing quality parts throughout the production process.
  • Mold number, alloy and employee’s initials are to be printed on the inside of the pour cup and trees are to be stamped (using metal lettering) with correct alloy.

Properly record in the electronic production tracking system (EPICOR) the progress and completion of jobs

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Excellent hand/eye coordination.

20/20 vision, or corrected, required.

  • Wax Operator 1 is an entry-level position.
  • On-the-job training.

Experience in production positions preferred but not required

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:  Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees. 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:  Ability to add and subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage, and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.  Ability to deal with problems involving concrete variables in standardized situations. 

Licenses, Certificate of registration:  NDT Inspector exam must be passed each year to perform the job

  • Some manufacturing experience preferred but not required.

Physical Demands:

Environmental —

  • Work area is climate controlled; temperature is 65 to 85 degrees.
  • The noise level is greater than 85 dB.
  • Wax area has silicone fumes.

Physical demands —

  • Handles wax parts and metal dies—metal dies fall into two categories, 0-59 lbs. and over 60 lbs
  • Moderate lifting, pushing and pulling is required and routinely flipping or turning of dies.
  • Prolonged standing in a confined area no more than 15 square feet is required.
  • Work is repetitive in nature; therefore, close attention to detail is required.

Safety —

  • Strict adherence to the Company Health & Safety policies at all times. Operator will wear PPE at all times.
  • A small torch (gas operated) which could cause 3rd degree burns.
  • Burning wax creates fumes when using the hot plate and torch.
  • Tools needed to preform duties might include: screwdrivers, punches, pliers and other small hand tools.
  • Wax Injection machine has platens operated by high pressure hydraulics.
