Position Summary
The Art Teacher provides engaging, developmentally appropriate visual arts instruction that fosters creativity,
critical thinking, and artistic expression. The teacher designs and delivers standards-aligned lessons that
introduce students to a variety of artistic techniques, media, and cultural perspectives. This role supports
students in developing confidence, creativity, and appreciation for the arts while contributing to a positive,
inclusive school environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
● Develops and implements engaging visual arts lessons aligned with district curriculum and Wisconsin
Academic Standards for Art and Design.
● Teaches a variety of artistic techniques and media, including drawing, painting, sculpture, mixed media,
and digital art when applicable.
● Encourages creativity and individual artistic expression while developing foundational art skills.
● Establishes a safe, inclusive, and respectful classroom environment that promotes student
engagement and collaboration.
● Assesses student learning and artistic growth through observation, projects, and portfolio
development; provides constructive feedback to support improvement.
● Displays and celebrates student artwork through school exhibitions, displays, and community events
when appropriate.
● Collaborates with classroom teachers and staff to support cross-curricular connections between
visual arts and other content areas.
Maintains an organized, safe, and well-managed art classroom, including proper storage, inventory, and
care of art supplies and equipment.
● Communicates effectively with students, families, and staff regarding student progress, classroom
expectations, and art program activities.
● Participates in professional development and ongoing learning related to art education, culturally
responsive instruction, and instructional best practices.
● Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
● Strong knowledge of artistic techniques, media, materials, and art history concepts.
● Ability to design engaging lessons that support creativity and skill development for diverse learners.
● Strong classroom management and organizational skills.
● Ability to build positive relationships with students and foster a supportive learning environment.
● Effective verbal and written communication skills.
● Ability to collaborate with colleagues and contribute to a positive school culture.
● Proficiency with instructional technology and digital tools that support art instruction when applicable.
Education and Experience
● Bachelor’s degree in Art Education
● Valid Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) teaching license in Art Education required or
eligibility to obtain licensure.
Physical and Work Requirements
This position may require:
● Standing and walking for extended periods.
● Sitting and working at a computer for extended periods.
● Lifting and moving art materials, supplies, and equipment up to approximately 25–40 pounds, with or
without reasonable accommodation.
● Bending, kneeling, reaching, and moving around the classroom and studio environment throughout the
school day.
● Lifting, carrying, or assisting students up to approximately 45 pounds, with or without reasonable
accommodation.
● Bending, kneeling, crouching, pushing, pulling, and assisting students with physical needs throughout
the school day.
