POSITION TITLE: School Nurse
REPORTS TO: School Principal / Coordinator of Health Services
POSITION SUMMARY
Provides and promotes health services for students, staff, and volunteers to support a safe and healthy learning environment. Delivers care through a comprehensive school health program; providing direct care, managing chronic conditions, implementing screenings, responding to health-related emergencies or crisis situations within the assigned building.

RN Degree: $40,082 - $58,102
BSN Degree: $48,305 - $70,782
Master’s Degree: $49,732 - $89,130
Master’s Degree +30: $51,894 - $92,471
Nurse Practioner License: $2,000 stipend
NCSN Certi?cation: $3,000 stipend
FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB
Essential Functions
- Assess student and staff health conditions in cases of acute illnesses or injury; provide care or refer to appropriate medical personnel in accordance with established nursing procedures.
- Provide long-term care for students with chronic medical conditions.
- Administer prescribed medications in compliance with the Nurse Practice Act and Board policy; monitor for side effects and effectiveness and maintain appropriate medication and procedural orders in writing and in accordance with district practices.
- Maintain and safeguard medication and medication access in accordance with district practices.
- Maintain accurate records of medications received and dispensed in accordance with applicable laws and nursing standards.
- Review, monitor, and maintain student immunization records for compliance with state requirements and board policy; follow up as needed.
- Conduct age-appropriate health screenings (e.g., vision, hearing, dental); document findings and refer for further evaluation when necessary.
- Conduct and assist with coordination of age-appropriate Human Growth and Development education in accordance with district practices and board policy.
- Maintain and update cumulative health records; prepare required state reports and paperwork.
- Monitor the school environment to ensure the health and safety of students and staff.
- Provide consultation to students, staff, and families regarding health concerns and injury prevention.
- Identify student health needs and develop individualized health care plans as appropriate.
- Coordinate and oversee building-level health services, screenings, and community health resources.
- Develop and implement health and safety plans, including emergency care procedures.
- Provide health education resources related to topics such as growth and development, hygiene, chronic conditions, and first aid.
- Manage emergency preparedness, AED monthly maintenance, access to emergency medications (albuterol, Narcan, epinephrine), and Cardiac Emergency Response Teams (CERT) within the school site; educating on Stop the Bleed and maintaining all team training and records of drills.

PHYSICAL / VISUAL DEMANDS
- Regularly requires standing, walking, sitting, speaking, stairs, hearing, and manual dexterity (e.g., grasping, feeling).
- Requires clear vision at close (20 inches or less) and distance (20 feet or more), including the ability to distinguish colors.
- Involves light to moderate physical activity, including lifting up to 25 regularly and up to 60 lbs. occasionally, with or without assistance.
- Ability to provide chest compressions without impediment.
- Maintain a hygienic and organized clinic workspace; notifying building administration when maintenance issues are noted.
- Maintain a professional, respectful, and positive workspace as well as relationships with all stakeholders in accordance to nursing standards and district policy.
- Collaborate with school team to reinforce and implement care coordination and best practice.
- Assist in cross-covering other school sites as medical acuity or staffing needs arise.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
- Primarily indoor work
- Regular exposure to communicable illnesses and occasional exposure to chemicals
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- Registered Nurse (RN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
- Knowledge of nursing and healthcare practices equivalent to a college-level education
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of nursing experience

- Ability to interpret and apply instructions in written, oral, or diagram form
- Ability to analyze and resolve problems involving multiple variables in standardized situations
- Proficiency in basic math functions (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, ratios, and percentages)
- Effective communication skills, including reading, writing, and speaking
- Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate with staff, students, families, and community partners
- Strong assessment skills, expertise in pediatric/public health preferred
- Ability to work autonomously in the school setting
- Ability to efficiently and effectively navigate and utilize the district’s electronic record system
