Duties
You will provide thorough assessment, counseling, and consultation services to clients who present for care with substance use risk factors and/or disorders.,You will interview individuals and family members to analyze factors affecting personality development and family dynamics related to symptomatic behaviors and complex interpersonal issues.,You will independently develop treatment plans and provide direct care using a variety of techniques to address personal, social, or environmental challenges related to substance use disorders.,You will perform administrative duties in support of provided services.,You will stay current in clinical supervision and related areas through continuing education, training, and professional literature.
Qualifications
Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Providing counseling or case management services; applying principles of human social services and family systems; addressing substance misuse or related behavioral concerns; assessing client needs and developing support plans; and coordinating services to support individual and family well-being. Additional qualification information can be found from the following Office of Personnel Management website: Psychology series 0180 Social Work series 0185 Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
Education
In addition to meeting the specialized experience, you will also be required to meet the following the individual occupational requirement(s) (IOR). Psychology series 0180: Degree: major or equivalent in psychology for all specializations except clinical psychology and counseling psychology. These two specializations have additional educational requirements, as stated below: Clinical psychology: For positions at grades GS-11 and above, satisfactory completion of all the requirements for the doctoral degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) directly related to full professional work in clinical psychology is required. Counseling psychology: For positions at grades GS-9 and above, satisfactory completion of 2 full academic years of graduate study directly related to professional work in counseling psychology, or satisfactory completion in an accredited educational institution of all the requirements for a master's degree directly related to counseling psychology is required. Social Work series 0185: Degree: social work. Must fulfill all of the requirements for the master's degree in social work in a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. Master's degree with practicum: Applicants who complete all of the requirements for a master's degree in social work that included a practicum are eligible for GS-9. In addition to meeting the IORs, you can qualify with the following educational requirement in lieu of specialized experience:3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree.
