We are seeking a Process Engineer for our SAGD/ Heavy Oil Aboveground Pipeline and Well Pads group. We are looking for this individual to provide technical leadership and oversight on complex SAGD / Heavy oil developments. This role is ideal for an experienced process engineer who enjoys leading teams, solving challenging engineering problems, and shaping high‑quality designs.

Key Responsibilities

What You’ll Do
As the SAGD / Heavy Oil Aboveground Pipeline and Well Pads Process Engineer, you will play a critical role in delivering safe, efficient, and compliant heavy oil infrastructure.

Technical Leadership
  • Support and lead process engineering activities across all phases: feasibility and process studies, conceptual design, DBMs, FEED, and detailed engineering
  • Develop, validate, and review process simulations and models for aboveground pipeline systems and well pads.
  • Author, review, and stamp key process deliverables including H&MBs, PFDs, P&IDs, line lists, shutdown keys, control narratives, calculations and engineering reports. 
Team Leadership & Collaboration
  • Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and leadership to intermediate, junior, and global workshare process engineers.
  • Manage discipline budgets, schedules, and risk in alignment with project and client expectations.
  • Collaborate closely with PMPEs, discipline leads, vendors, and clients to resolve complex engineering challenges.
Safety, Quality & Compliance
  • Lead and participate in P&ID reviews and PHA/HAZOPs to ensure safe and operable designs.
  • Ensure compliance with API, ASME, ISO, and applicable Canadian codes and standards.
Project Execution & Operational Support
  • Perform and review line hydraulics, transient analysis, and pipeline calculations.
  • Validate line sizing, PSV sizing, and provide input to equipment and instrumentation datasheets.
  • Support commissioning, start‑up, troubleshooting, and operational optimization activities.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

About You
You are a process engineer who thrives in a technical leadership role and enjoys working across multidisciplinary teams. You bring:
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation with APEGA.
  • Chemical Engineering degree from an accredited institution.
  • 10+ years of industry experience in SAGD / Heavy Oil process engineering specific to aboveground pipeline systems and well pads.
  • Proficiency with HYSYS and related software such as PipeFlo, PipeSim, PipeSys, DNV Synergi, and UniSim.  Knowledge of Olga software is considered an asset.
  • Strong understanding of process safety, risk management, and regulatory requirements.
  • Proven experience leading process engineering teams and delivering complex projects.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
  • A client‑focused, solutions‑oriented mindset.
Preferred:
  • EPCM project experience.
  • Additional P.Eng. registration with EGBC.
