About the Role
The Material Handler – Level 1 plays a critical role in supporting the production workflow by ensuring accurate and timely movement of materials throughout the facility. This position requires proficiency in forklift operation, strong attention to detail, and an understanding of material flow within a manufacturing environment.
Core Responsibilities
Forklift Operation
- Must be certified by Lexington Manufacturing to operate forklifts
- Safely and efficiently operate forklifts in a production/warehouse environment
- Deliver materials to and from production departments, stack inventory, load/unload trucks, and enter transactions into the ERP system
- Assist with inventory and cycle counts as needed
- Identify and locate materials quickly and accurately
- Perform daily forklift inspection checklists
Processes
- Maintain transactional accuracy for material movements within the production scheduling system
- Follow company policies, safety regulations, quality procedures, work instructions, and documentation requirements
- Participate in continuous improvement activities and provide feedback to improve products, processes, and standards
- Perform other duties as assigned
Safety
- Follow all required PPE and safety procedures
- Attend required safety and compliance training
- May handle hazardous materials including paints, stains, lacquers, solvents, lubricants, cleaners, and oils
Quality
- Ensure all work meets established quality specifications and standards
- Understand and follow SPC, control plans, quality specifications, job instructions, and preventative maintenance procedures
- Perform quality, equipment, and inspection checks
Productivity & Job Knowledge
- Complete all assigned work within the expected time frame
- Demonstrate understanding of equipment, tools, processes, and materials
- Work to improve overall competency and propose solutions to challenges
Attendance & Dependability
- Report to work on time and follow scheduled work hours
- Provide proper notification when absent
- Maintain availability for scheduled overtime

Job Requirements
Minimum Qualifications (Must-Have)
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Material handling experience
- Ability to read and interpret safety procedures, operating instructions, manuals, and technical specifications
- Ability to climb in/out of forklifts frequently
- Ability to lift various weights throughout the shift
- Ability to work in loud environments and varying temperatures
Preferred Qualifications (Nice-to-Have)
- Manufacturing experience
- Basic computer literacy
Physical & Mental Demands
- Sitting or standing for prolonged periods
- Repetitive climbing in and out of forklifts
- Frequent lifting, bending, and material handling
- Ability to work in environments with paint/chemical smells
