Controls & Maintenance Technician – Manufacturing

Lexington Manufacturing is seeking a Controls & Maintenance Technician to build, design, maintain, and improve control systems and production equipment while supporting a safe, efficient, and high‑performing manufacturing environment.

About the Role
The Controls & Maintenance Technician builds and designs new control systems to improve the function, safety, and reliability of production equipment. This position performs a wide range of maintenance duties requiring a high degree of technical skill and independent problem‑solving.
Responsibilities include installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of production machinery, electrical and control systems, and building maintenance systems. The role also supports continuous improvement initiatives and ensures compliance with safety, quality, and documentation standards.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Maintenance
- Perform advanced maintenance and troubleshooting on production equipment and machinery
- Diagnose and resolve electrical and mechanical malfunctions, including dismantling equipment as needed
- Clean, adjust, repair, or replace defective components and test equipment for proper operation
- Respond to emergency callouts and assist with all equipment as necessary
Controls, Installation & Troubleshooting
- Design, build, and improve machine control and safety systems to enhance reliability and performance
- Document all new or updated control systems, including manuals and schematics
- Maintain current PLC and HMI program backups
- Perform PLC, RTU, HMI, VFD, ladder logic, and relay logic programming and troubleshooting
- Perform basic CNC programming and troubleshooting
- Install, program, inspect, and adjust electrical, mechanical, and instrumentation systems
- Ensure equipment operates within established guidelines and update documentation to current revision levels
- Ensure CMMS inventory and asset records remain accurate and current
- Initiate and complete accurate work orders
- Serve as liaison with manufacturers, contractors, and vendors
- Ensure all systems comply with the National Electrical Code and applicable regulations
- Identify job‑site hazards and strictly adhere to safety standards
- Organize work assignments and manage priorities effectively
Building Maintenance
- Perform building maintenance including plumbing, mechanical, and electrical repairs
- Support dust collector systems, roofing issues, remodeling projects, and equipment/furniture installation
- Perform general facility upkeep including lighting, filters, belts, and structural components
Preventive Maintenance
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance and inspections on:
- Production and CNC machinery
- Forklifts, cranes, dust collectors, heating and A/C systems
- Hand tools, extension cords, alarms, exit lights, sprinkler systems, and fire extinguishers
- Ensure equipment reliability and extended service life through proactive maintenance
Additional Responsibilities
- Operate forklifts to move materials, machines, or equipment
- Handle, transport, and store hazardous materials (paint, lubricants, cleaners, oils, gas)
- Follow all company safety policies, work instructions, quality standards, and documentation requirements
- Maintain transactional accuracy for material movement and production scheduling systems
- Contribute ideas for continuous improvement of products, processes, and standards
Minimum & Preferred Qualifications
Education
- 2‑year technical degree and/or 5+ years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination
Experience & Skills
- Manufacturing maintenance experience strongly preferred
- Experience with:
- Electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems
- PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, CNC machines
- Machining, welding, plumbing, and general building maintenance
- Ability to troubleshoot 110V, 208V, and 480V single‑ and three‑phase circuits
- Ability to read and interpret manuals, mechanical blueprints, and electrical/pneumatic schematics
- Proficient with hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring devices
Technology
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Comfortable working with CMMS and other manufacturing software systems
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and stretch for 8–12 hours
- Ability to perform repetitive movements
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs unassisted on an occasional basis
Working Environment
- Manufacturing and warehouse environment with loud noise and dust (hearing and eye protection required)
- Exposure to dirty materials and varied hot/cold temperatures
- Occasional exposure to heat, humidity, and paint smells
