Job Description

The non-tenure track faculty position of Lecturer of Physics is responsible for developing, coordinating, and teaching Physics courses in the College of Arts, Sciences, and Education (CASE).  The successful candidate will possess documented capability in teaching and service and will be expected to foster the growth of first-rate Physics courses, including building on existing strengths within the College and through collaboration with other faculty in CASE.  A successful candidate will also address student needs in Physics and assist the Division Chair and Dean in implementing the short- and long-term goals of the College.

Eligibility to work in the U.S. is required at the time of hire. No pre-employment sponsorship is authorized for this position.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teach assigned courses (15 credit hours per semester or 30 credit hours per academic year)

  • Work collaboratively with faculty across disciplines

  • Contribute to curriculum and course development

  • Serve on department, college, and university committees, as assigned by the Chair or Dean

  • Serve on professional committees, as approved by the Dean

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Minimum Qualifications

  • A Master’s degree in Physics, or a closely related field with at least 18 semester credit hours in physics at the graduate level by the time of employment

  • Ability to teach various courses within our Physics program

  • A passion and patience for teaching students’ foundational skills in physics

  • Evidence of excellence in teaching

  • Excellent oral/written communication and organizational skills

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • A Ph.D. in Physics, or closely related field

  • Minimum two (2) years of teaching experience at the college level

  • Online teaching experience at an accredited college or university

  • Experience in teaching upper or lower-division physics courses utilizing current supporting technology at the University level

  •  Familiarity with accreditation processes (e.g. SACSCOC, ABET, etc.) and assessment, including data collection, organization, and analysis

  • Research is not a requirement for this position, but research interest and efforts would be viewed favorably

  • Excellent interpersonal skills

  • Ability to assist with university and professional service activities, including national and international outreach to, and collaboration with, industry and other academic institutions

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
