About the Department
This position is an exciting opportunity for a student to learn about local government and assist the city in achieving its goals and objectives. The successful candidate will have a desire to learn about city operations, strong communication and listening skills, and the ability to work with a wide variety of individuals and groups.
This year-round internship is 20 hours per week, Monday-Friday (option to flex hours).
Position Duties
- Assist the administration department with various special projects including:
- Coordinating leadership academies for residents and staff
- Creating a records retention and data practices program
- Implementing engagement and outreach standards for multi-family dwellings
- Coordinating special events
- Assist the human resources department with a variety of projects including:
- Recruitment, hiring, and onboarding
- Track and analyze recruitment and hiring-related metrics
- Employee events such as training and wellness activities
- Provides support to other HR-related functions including training, employee engagement, and data management
- Attend and participate in council, commission, and committee meetings as needed
- Research and analyze data for decision making
Note: This position requires regular and reliable attendance, the ability to concentrate and manage multiple priorities with frequent interruptions, good organizational skills, strong written and verbal communication skills, strong customer service skills, attention to detail, self motivation, and the ability to work well with others.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum qualifications
Currently attending college
Ability to work 20 hours per week
Ability to travel between work and to off-site events; provide own transportation
One year customer service experience
Must be 18 years of age or older
Previous experience in city or county government
Currently attending graduate school for public administration or related field
Additional customer service experience
Human resources experience
