    POSITION

    Instructional Assistant- DLC Classroom

    7.25 hrs. per day / 4-day work week

     

    DUTIESThe Instructional Assistant for the Developmental Learning Classroom (DLC) supports the special education teacher to promote access and inclusion for students with significant learning needs. The assistant helps deliver individualized supports, manages classroom and student routines, promotes learning and skill-building in academic, social, communication, and personal development.

    MINIMUM

    QUALIFICATIONS

    1. High School Diploma or the equivalent, associate's degree, 2 years of college or the equivalent.
    2. Experience working with children experiencing disability in a school or care setting preferred.
    3. Patience, reliability, and a strong sense of responsibility.
    4. General clerical skills.
    5. Ability to establish and maintain strong communication and collaborative working relationships with children and adults.
    6. Such alterations to the above as the Board may find appropriate.

     

    PERFORMANCE
    RESPONSIBILITIES
    1. Support students in the classroom and in inclusive settings (e.g., general education classrooms, lunch, recess, specials).
    2. Under supervision of a certified teacher, prepares for classroom activities and routines.
    3. Works with individual and small groups of students to support the academic, communication, developmental or life skills goals of students.
    4. Assists teacher with noninstructional classroom duties, such as monitoring behaviors and    supervision of students outside of the classroom.
    5. Follows specialized plans to support learning or behavior of students; collects data or creates records as directed.
    6. Performs clerical duties; cares for instructional equipment; runs errands; prepares displays and bulletin boards; sets up special interest areas.
    7. Checks notebooks, corrects papers, scores tests, and assists with testing, as required.
    8. Performs physical labor as required, such as moving books, classroom materials and cleaning up after classroom activities.
    9. Understands and carries out oral and written directions.
    10. Follows district and building policies and procedures.
    11. Performs other duties as assigned.

     

    SALARY RANGE$17.70 - $21.16 / hour, depending on experience.
