Job Description


JOB SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Department Director and/or Manager this hands-on position will be responsible for assisting across multiple City departments. This is a seasonal position (up to 40 hours a week). 

The primary goal of the Parks & Recreation internship is to support Parks and Recreation program initiatives, such as the implementation of after-school and summer programming which includes athletics, camps, events, pool operations.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Learn and master internal operations, including but not limited to accounting, event planning, finance, human resources, payroll, communications, relationship building, customer service, sales, daily operations, etc
  • Assist with the implementation of after-school and/or summer programs, including youth athletics, day camps, community events, and pool operations to ensure smooth daily execution.
  • Support program setup and breakdown, including preparing equipment, athletic fields, event materials, and pool areas in accordance with safety and operational guidelines.
  • Provide on-site participant support, helping supervise activities, answer questions, and promote a positive and inclusive recreational environment.
  • Collaborate with parks and recreation staff to monitor attendance, track program participation, and evaluate the effectiveness of summer offerings.
  • Ensure compliance with safety procedures, including observing pool operations, enforcing facility rules, and assisting with risk management during athletic and camp activities.
  • Identify area for process improvements
  • Make recommendations to leadership for streamlining systems and processes
  • Research and implement solutions for enhanced efficiency
  • Provide general administration assistance and support
  • Participation in various meetings
  • Supporting event coordination 
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.


MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS 

A Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior, or Graduate Level student currently enrolled in a college or university with a major related to the role is preferred; Attention to detail, the ability to multi-task and excellent oral and written communications skills are all essential to this position. 


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of the operation of general office equipment including calculator, computer keyboard, computer word processing or other programs, telephone, telephone console, or copy machine as required;
  • Knowledge of basic mathematical and accounting procedures;
  • Skill in operating a computer;
  • Skill in communicating both orally and in written form;
  • Skill in researching complex issues and developing recommended actions;
  • Ability to develop, implement and evaluate new and revised procedures, methods and standards;
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise considerable skill in information handling, privacy of records and judgment;
  • Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints;
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions;

The work is sedentary work and requires speaking and talking.
