About the position...

The Pipe Layer/Skilled Laborer is responsible for performing manual labor and installing piping systems for underground utilities. This role assists Equipment Operators and crews to prepare trenches and place pipe accurately to ensure quality excavation standards are me to meet proper specifications.

  • Efficiently uses tools for installing pipe including, but not limited to, Pipe Lasers and Transit Center Lines.
  • Utilizes proven knowledge and use of Trimble/GPS system to assist in excavation and recording of work.
  • Easily completes assigned tasks from Foreman and Superintendent with no direction or supervision needed.
  • Reads and works from detailed plans/blueprints to execute work.
  • Assist Operators and Foreman in spotting and digging for various pipe work.
  • Ensure proper installation of exterior and interior drains and similar systems.
  • Assist with daily site tasks, including but not limited to backfilling and tamping, curb and inlet repairs, and additional skills as trained.
  • Operate company vehicles, material handlers, dump trucks, rental equipment, towing trailers and compressors.
  • Operate tampers, jack hammers, demolition saws, pumps, and pressure washers as needed.
  • Responsible for inventory control, including but limited to hand tools and power tools on site.
  • Responsible for organizing and maintaining site storage trailers, equipment, and all other company assets.     
  • Responsible for cleaning up each job as it is completed.
  • Assists with snow removal on construction sites and other properties as directed.

Requirements

What we are looking for from you...

  • Must have a valid Driver’s License, automobile insurance, and reliable transportation
  • 2+ years' experience in site-work/utility related experience is required
  • Strong knowledge of utility function and installation
  • Experience using tools for pipe installation including, but not limited to, Pipe Lasers and Transit Center Lines
  • Experience using Trimble/GPS system to assist in excavation and recording of work
  • Ability to read/work from detailed plans/blueprints
  • Must understand layout work
  • Must be able to complete site work, including, but not limited to digging, lifting, climbing ladders, and entering trench excavations
