Great Basin Institute / BLM, Rock Springs Field Office
The Great Basin Institute, in partnership with the Bureau of Land Management, is hiring one (1) Cadastral Survey Cartography Technician in Rock Springs, Wyoming.
Principal Assistant to the Party Chief: AmeriCorps member will assist the Cadastral land surveyor in all phases of survey projects: specifically, the resurvey of the Wyoming-Utah state line and or the Sweeney Ranch double corner investigation and resurvey. As a trainee the member will be required to function as assistant to the land surveyor after an intensive daily training program.
The selected candidate will be required to:
- Operate survey equipment,
- Manage data,
- Conduct record research
- Represent the bureau when encountering members of the public in the field,
- Drive a 4-wheel drive truck to and from the job site, and a UTV in the field (experience is not expected),
- Can make sensible, informed decisions daily,
- Analyze records logically,
- Interact (general demeanor) with peers and members of the public (Which will be evaluated throughout this project), and
- On occasion, the candidate may be required to operate autonomously under supervision of the land surveyor after demonstrating proficiency.
Contract Timeline:
- May 2026 – October 2026; 20-25 wk appointment; and
- Full time (40 hours/week).
Location:
Rock Springs BLM Field Office, 280 Highway 191 North, Rock Springs, Wyoming, 82901. No Remote option is available, 80-90% of the work is field. Remainder is daily data maintenance and research in the office prior to departing for field work (generally 1 ½- 2 hours).
Compensation and Benefits:
Living Allowance: $650 weekly (before taxes);
- Eligible Term of 675 - 900hr AmeriCorps award (term length is dependent on start date)
Segal AmeriCorps Education Award (675Hr - 900Hr): $2,817 - $3,697 upon successful completion of term (based on term dates);

Segal Education Award:
After successfully completing an AmeriCorps term of service members are eligible to receive the Segal AmeriCorps Education Award. Awards vary based on term of service. You can use the award to repay qualified student loans and to pay current educational expenses at eligible institutions of higher education and training programs.
Student Loan Forbearance:
If you are currently paying on any federal student loans you have the option to put those loans into forbearance during your time as an AmeriCorps volunteer, that will allow you to cease payments while serving.
Interest Accrual Repayment:
As an AmeriCorps alum, you are eligible to have the National Service Trust pay all or a portion of the interest that accumulated on your qualified student loan(s) during your term of service. These payments are made in addition to the Education Award and are not deducted from your Education Award balance. To be eligible to have accrued interest paid: The loan must have been placed in forbearance for the service period, and you must have successfully completed a term of service and received an Education Award.

AmeriCorps Volunteers are eligible for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
