Job Summary
The Senior Business Systems Analyst (BSA) plays a key role on the Field Data Capture team, supporting the broader Global Engineering organization. This role requires a well-rounded background, strong functional skills, and the ability to understand both business processes and technical systems. This role will work closely with internal business users to provide real-time application support. This includes managing issue response and triage, documenting defects, and coordinating communication around resolutions.
The Senior Business Systems Analyst will work in our Houston Corporate office and may work two (2) days a week remotely.
Responsibilities
- Provide support for key production applications such as eVIN, ProCount, Carte, and Power Platform. Support activities include user training, report writing, SQL queries, software upgrades, troubleshooting bugs, creating/editing Carte views, and customizing eVIN screens
- Deliver datasets to stakeholders via reports, data pipelines, interfaces, and general ETL (extract, transform, load) operations
- Act as a subject matter expert and data steward for global oil and gas production data
- Support operations by setting up new wells, configuring allocation networks and flow changes, building allocation formulas, and assisting with month-end close activities
- Coach and train operations staff on data entry, data correction processes, and use of P2 Merrick applications
- Lead projects that streamline business operations, including software upgrades, new allocation scenarios, business process improvements, data engineering initiatives, Spotfire /Power BI dashboard development, application testing, and software implementations
Qualifications/Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in MIS, Computer Science, Business Management, or Engineering
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in upstream oil and gas
- Proficiency in writing and managing SQL objects (views, stored procedures) and supporting software applications such as P2/Merrick (eVIN, ProCount, Carte) or other production operations adjacent software suite
Desired/Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with an oil and gas company or consulting firm, with a proven track record of leading projects
- Familiarity with Agile workflows and source control products such as Azure DevOps and Git
- Familiarity with P2/IFS products – particularly the wider Merrick Suite
- Programming and architecture experience with common data-relevant technology stack such as: SQL, Python, PySpark, PowerBI
- Basic understanding of containerization (Kubernetes, Azure Functions, Docker) is a plus
- Familiarity with enterprise data warehouse/lakehouse solutions such as Databricks and Azure Data Factory is a plus
The individual is required to follow all applicable safety precautions. Work is performed almost entirely in a controlled (i.e., inside) environment and does not typically subject the incumbent to any hazardous/extreme elements; some positions may require regularly moving or transporting items weighing up to 25 lbs. around the office for various needs. The successful candidate must be able to complete all essential physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
