Job Description

Support Services of Virginia continuously recruits new Sponsored Residential Providers who want to open their homes for multi-year placements of one or two adults with intellectual disabilities.  Our Sponsored Residential Providers are committed to helping others become active members of the community in a natural setting.

Support Services of Virginia contracts with individuals, couples, partners, or family groups (for example, mother/daughter households). However, sponsor families are preferred to not have children younger than 12 years old living in the home.

Sponsored Residential Providers must:

  • Be 21 years of age or older
  • Have a high school diploma or GED
  • Be active and engaged in the community
  • Have at least six (6) months of experience (professional or life experience) supporting individuals with intellectual disabilities, preferably adults
  • Be comfortable working in an electronic environment
  • Have strong writing skills

If these experience requirements are not yet met, opportunities may be available to work as a Direct Support Professional (DSP) in other SSVA programs to gain the required experience.

A relative of someone eligible for sponsored services may become a sponsor, although qualification guidelines are stricter compared to sponsoring non-related adults.

About Sponsored Residential Services

Becoming a Sponsored Residential Provider means opening a small business as a subcontractor with Support Services of Virginia. Providers are not employees of SSVA.

This role requires a high level of personal responsibility, while offering opportunities for greater self-determination and the ability to share personal interests and activities with the individual supported. Providers are responsible for all aspects of a person’s support needs.

Support Services of Virginia maintains a steady stream of adults seeking sponsored homes and works carefully to match individuals with homes that share similar interests and lifestyles.

Payment, Certification, and Program Expectations

  • Sponsored payments are issued biweekly
  • Providers may spend up to three (3) months completing certification
  • Required trainings are provided at no cost
  • Homes must comply with licensing guidelines to become approved sites
  • Providers must supply detailed information about their lifestyle
  • Providers must cooperate with program and licensing guidelines
  • Providers should celebrate diversity and accept individuals with a wide variety of personalities and needs
Support Services of Virginia values diversity and inclusion and welcomes candidates from all backgrounds. We are proud to be an Equal Opportunity Employer.
