THE OPPORTUNITY:


The Kitting Department Lead supports the DC Management Team by overseeing daily operations specific to the kitting area. This role ensures all kit assembly activities meet quality standards, productivity targets, and timelines while maintaining a safe and organized work environment. The Kitting Department Lead coordinates workflow, monitors performance, troubleshoots process issues, and supports continuous improvement initiatives. This position is critical to ensuring that the kitting function contributes efficiently to the distribution center’s overall success and customer satisfaction.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervise daily kitting operations, including assembling components, packaging kits, and ensuring timely order fulfillment.
  • Ensure kitting activities align with company quality, accuracy, and efficiency standards.
  • Organize and assign tasks to kitting team members based on workload, priorities, and skill level.
  • Provide daily direction, coaching, and performance feedback to team members; lead by example.
  • Ensure team compliance with all safety protocols and regulatory guidelines.
  • Monitor inventory levels of kit components; coordinate with inventory and receiving teams to resolve shortages or discrepancies.
  • Work collaboratively with other warehouse departments (e.g., picking, packing, shipping) to optimize workflow and prevent bottlenecks.
  • Support continuous improvement by identifying process inefficiencies and suggesting or implementing solutions.
  • Participate in training and onboarding new kitting associates.
  • Conduct regular audits of kit accuracy and completeness; maintain documentation as required.
  • Assist the DC Management Team with reporting, KPI tracking, and operational planning for the kitting function.
  • Act as the go-to resource for resolving kitting-related issues in a timely and professional manner.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 3+ years of professional supply chain or warehouse operations experience, preferably within the automotive parts industry.
  • Proven experience in supervising and leading teams, with the ability to provide orientation and daily guidance.
  • Required Qualifications – Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and modern Warehouse Management technology

 

SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Excellent computer skills, including proficiency with ERP and Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) to manage kitting workflows and inventory accuracy.
  • Strong knowledge of logistics, distribution, and warehouse management best practices, with a focus on kitting operations in an automotive environment.
  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively within a matrix environment; highly organized, detail-oriented, and skilled at multitasking in a fast-paced, deadline-driven setting.
  • Demonstrated leadership and people management skills to lead, coach, and mentor kitting team members, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
  • Proven team-building abilities both internally and with external partners, with the capability to motivate and direct daily kitting activities.
  • Exceptional skills in managing and building relationships with internal stakeholders (production, supply chain) and external customers to ensure kit accuracy and on-time delivery.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage senior management regarding kitting performance and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Strong analytical skills to monitor kitting metrics, identify bottlenecks or quality issues, and implement process improvements.
  • Competency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat, PowerPoint, Outlook) to create reports, presentations, and documentation related to kitting operations.

  • The Kitting Lead will work primarily in a fast-paced warehouse environment, managing daily kitting operations.
  • Collaborates closely with kitting team members, warehouse staff, vendors, and other department managers within the facility to ensure smooth workflow and kit accuracy.
  • Depending on the assigned location, the facility may be shared with Sales, Production, and other business units, requiring effective cross-functional communication and coordination.

While performing the duties of this job, the Kitting Lead must be able to talk and hear clearly to communicate effectively with team members and other departments. The role requires regular sitting, standing, and walking for 8 hours or more per day, often moving throughout the warehouse floor. Frequent activities include using hands and fingers for tasks such as handling parts, grasping tools, and inspecting kits, as well as climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, pushing, pulling, and reaching with hands and arms. Occasionally, the Kitting Lead may need to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, particularly when assisting with inventory or kit staging.
