About the Department

The Adult Learning Tutor supports residents by providing academic assistance, skill-building guidance, and encouragement within a secure facility environment. Tutors help participants strengthen foundational skills, complete assigned coursework, and build confidence as they work toward educational, personal, and reentry goals.

Location and hours:
This volunteer opportunity is located at the Adult Correctional Facility, 1145 Shenandoah Lane N. Plymouth MN 55447.

Weekdays 8:30 am-11:30 am, 12:30 pm – 4:00 pm. Any weekend availability as well. Two-hour shifts; weekly.

Department staff and volunteers serve Hennepin County at more than 20 service locations ranging from correctional facilities to probation reporting offices and occupational training centers, delivering sustainable correctional services to more than 26,000 adult and juvenile clients. Invitations to interview will be based upon an assessment of experience. Final candidates will be required to complete a background check.
