About Hedral
Hedral is redefining building design through automated, multi-disciplinary engineering.
We develop and operate a proprietary platform that accelerates design schedules, enabling us to deliver the output of traditional AEC firms ten times our size. We are fully licensed to stamp these designs as Engineer of Record and take responsibility for highly-consequential projects, from mission-critical federal facilities to complex commercial infrastructure.
We are scaling quickly with backing from leading venture capital including Khosla Ventures, Valor Equity Partners, and Tishman Speyer.
The Role
As a Full Stack Engineer (Backend Focus), you will architect and maintain the critical systems that bridge high-fidelity building engineering with scalable software. You will have end-to-end ownership of complex data models and high-performance backend services, ensuring technical robustness as we scale. We are seeking a systems-minded builder who excels in a rapid-iteration environment and is comfortable moving across the stack to deliver the infrastructure that powers our automated design platform.
Location
Austin, TX or New York, NY - Primary preference for Austin or NYC; remote-eligible for exceptional candidates with a proven track record.
Core Responsibilities
Architect & Scale: Build and maintain a robust backend in C# (.NET) and Python (FastAPI) capable of handling large-scale, interconnected engineering datasets.
Performance Engineering: Implement high-performance ECS (Entity Component System) components and manage complex data flows to support real-time engineering solvers.
Bridge the Stack: Develop and optimize APIs (GraphQL, gRPC, or REST) that feed a real-time, browser-based React frontend.
Full-Spectrum Contribution: Maintain a "no-silos" mentality, contributing to different areas of the codebase—from infrastructure to frontend—leveraging AI-assisted workflows to accelerate output.
System Evolution: Design database schemas (PostgreSQL) and services with an eye toward future high-performance migrations (e.g., Rust/C++).
Requirements
Education: BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
Experience: 3+ years of professional software engineering experience.
Backend Mastery: Deep proficiency in C# / .NET or Python (FastAPI), with a strong interest or experience in systems-level languages like Rust or C++. You should have a solid grasp of memory management, asynchronous programming, and architecting for low-latency performance.
Data Architecture: Strong experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL) and API design.
Modern Workflow: Proficiency with AI-powered IDEs (Cursor, Copilot, etc.) and a commitment to using AI to multiply individual impact.
Full Stack Proficiency: Competent in React and TypeScript to ensure seamless integration between backend logic and UI.
Cloud & Infra: Proficiency with AWS/Azure/GCP, Docker, and CI/CD (GitHub Actions).
Bonus Qualifications
Startup DNA: Experience in a fast-paced, high-growth, or agile startup environment.
Domain Expertise: Familiarity with CAD, BIM, 3D web graphics (Three.js), or structural simulation.
Real-Time Systems: Experience with real-time collaboration tools (SignalR, Y.js, or similar).
Technical Foundations: Solid understanding of linear algebra, geometry, or physics-based computing.
How we operate
Ownership & Intensity: We operate with high autonomy and a shared sense of urgency to redefine an entire industry.
Speed Over Perfection: We emphasize rapid iterations and shipping quickly. We prioritize automation over manual effort to solve high-consequence problems.
Adaptive Learning: We value engineers who step out of their comfort zones. Whether it's learning a new language or mastering a new AI tool, we expect constant evolution.
Data-Driven Decisions: Our core advantage is that our system learns from real, stamped engineering work. Every project feeds back into the model.
What we offer
Competitive Compensation and Benefits
Environment for Growth: A culture that rewards technical curiosity and high-bandwidth collaboration.
Impactful Autonomy: The opportunity to shape the future of AEC by working at the intersection of structural engineering and cutting-edge software.
High-Stakes Technical Ownership: Direct responsibility for the systems that power mission-critical federal and commercial infrastructure.
