Summary: The Medical Assistant (MA) performs clinical and administrative duties in support of patient care under the direction of physicians and in accordance with applicable laws and organizational policies. Responsibilities include recording patients’ medical, family, and social histories; obtaining and documenting vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, weight, height, and temperature; and accurately documenting complaints, presenting symptoms, and other relevant clinical information in the patient record.
The MA administers medications and injections as authorized by law and prepares blood and other specimens for laboratory testing. The MA also schedules examinations, consultations, and procedures to support efficient patient flow.
As an active member of the Care Coordination Team, the Medical Assistant collaborates with providers, nurses, care coordinators, and front office staff to support continuity of care, assist with referrals and follow-up appointments, reinforce patient education, and help ensure patients are connected to needed services in a timely and coordinated manner.
Education: Medical assistants receive training through vocational or community college programs.
Experience: 1-2 years of experience in a clinic or hospital setting.
Licenses, Certification, and/or Registrations: Must be a Certified Medical Assistant.
