Job Summary
The School
of Biological, Environmental and Earth Sciences at The University of Southern
Mississippi invites applications for a full-time Instructor or Assistant Teaching Professor of Medical Laboratory Science to begin
August 2026.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities  

  1. Develop, modify, and deliver Medical Laboratory Science lecture courses.
  2. Develop, modify, set-up, and deliver laboratory lectures for Medical Laboratory Science courses.
  3. Develop, modify, and deliver content for undergraduate and corresponding graduate-level Medical Laboratory Science courses in both face to face/campus and online formats.
  4. Advise students in Medical Laboratory Science.
  5. Participate in school, college, and University service activities such as but not limited to recruitment, committee membership, as well as tenure and promotion.
  6. Maintain campus presence for student advisement and tutoring, faculty meetings and service activities, and University event participation.
  7. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications 
Instructor:
Minimum
qualifications for the position include a Master’s degree in a natural science
or closely related field from an accredited college or university.  Additional qualifications include 18 hours
of graduate-level courses in medical laboratory science and evidence of
commitment to excellence in teaching. 
ASCP certification as a medical laboratory scientist is required with
continuing education.

Assistant
Teaching Professor:
Minimum
qualifications for the position include an earned PhD or EdD in a natural
science or closely related field from an accredited college or
university.  Additional qualifications
include 18 hours of graduate-level courses in medical laboratory science and
evidence of commitment to excellence in teaching.  ASCP certification as a medical laboratory
scientist is required with continuing education.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and an online Learning Management System like Canvas.
  • Medical Laboratory Science generalist skills (special certification, education or interest in Chemistry, Hematology and/or Management, desirable).
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred
qualifications include, but are not limited to, an earned MS, Ph.D. or EdD,
3-5 years of clinical/academic teaching experience, evidence of teaching
effectiveness (e.g., summary of student evaluations, peer, or supervisor
evaluations), and proof of instructional development (e.g., teaching-related
workshops or conferences attended) and professional organization membership.
