Job Description

OLV Human Services is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented professional to join our team in a dynamic role supporting the recruitment, training, and ongoing development of Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) and working in our Office of People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) programs!

You will collaborate closely with management and Human Resources to ensure compliance with OPWDD standards, maintain accurate training records, and support staff through scheduling and site transitions. Additional Information:

  • Salary: $21.00 - $26.89/ per hour. *Based on relevant years of related experience. 
  • Schedule: Full Time – Monday through Friday, 7:30am to 3:30pm. This position has expected flexibility due to the training needs of staff onsite at the group homes.

Job Summary: 

Provide support for the Direct Support Professionals (DSP) with the interview process, orientation training, onsite coaching/mentoring and schedule/site transfers.  Be part of the training team for Office of People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) New Hire Orientation, SCIP-R, CPR and Risking Connections.  Assist with maintaining OPWDD staff training record compliance (in Therap and HRIS system).

 

Essential Job Duties:

  1. Exhibit professional, ethical, respectful and trustworthy behavior in all situations.
  2. Hiring Manager for the Direct Support Professional (DSP) position – which includes:
    • review all DSP applications in “Hiring Manager” status in the HRIS system 
    • complete DSP phone screens
    • coordinate with site manager to complete onsite DSP interview for appropriate candidates
    • assist with onsite interviews, as needed
    • complete Post Interview process for “Proceed” and “Not Proceed” candidates
    • complete required HRIS updates during phone screen/onsite interview/post interview steps
  3. Present/complete OPWDD New Hire Orientation sessions as requested/assigned
  4. Complete onsite 1:1 training follow up/coaching/mentoring for all new DSP hires
  5. Manage the bidding for all open DSP schedules, in accordance with Article 9 – “Job Posting and Transfers” of the SEIU union contract – which includes:
    • post open schedule in Therap for DSP bidding
    • at end of bidding period, organize bidders by seniority and verify eligibility to bid (no higher than 2nd level discipline; date of last site transfer at least 6 months ago,  etc…)
    • contact most senior/eligible bidder and offer schedule
    • post schedule acceptance in Therap s-comm
    • post any newly available schedule due to transfer/termination/resignation
    • inform site management of any other staff/schedule changes
  6. Maintain DSP schedule grid and distribute regularly to management staff for reference
  7. Meet with OPWDD HR Generalist weekly to update the staff vacancy report and discuss any hiring issues for the OPWDD Division
  8. Train SCIP-R, CPR and Risking Connections, as assigned
  9. Any other duty as assigned by your Supervisor.

Education Requirements:  

  • High School Diploma/GED Equivalent

Experience Requirements:  

  • 1-3 years human services and/or training experience 

License/Registration/Certifications Required:

  • NYS driver’s license
  • CPR Instructor certification 
  • SCIP-R Instructor certification 
  • Risking Connections Instructor certification

Training Requirements:  

  • Agency New Hire Orientation
  • DD New Hire Orientation

 

Physical Requirements: 

The overall nature of the position is sedentary, requiring little physical effort with occasional light physical exertion required. There is little, if any, exposure to environmental conditions
