Job Description

We are currently looking for a Full Time Risk and Patient Safety Coordinator to join our Medical Risk and Patient Safety team located at the Chickasaw Nation Medical Center working 8:00AM-5:00PM - Fr.

Summary:

This position monitors the health care provided within our department. Ensuring quality patient care and effective utilization of available health facilities and services, the position is responsible for managing, planning, integrating, and coordinating performance improvement activities, risk management issues, employee education, and risk event reporting management functions.

Responsibilities:

* Assists with coordination of all activities for risk management and other RM activities
* Ensures coordination of all required data collection for risk management, legal issues and utilization management; including but not limited to measures and benchmarking for required Joint Commission data collection and CMS measures
* Assists Risk Manager with management of federal tort claims
* Works with multidisciplinary task force for risk management issues to include HR, IEH, Compliance, HIPAA for the development, coordination, and participation in multifaceted orientation program, and education training program for all employees
* Interacts and maintains professional working relationship with all other CNDH departments and employees, CNDH medical staff, and all other Chickasaw Nation divisions
* Assists Risk Manager with review and completion of Culture of Safety Survey, risk assessments, and Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA) every 18 months or as indicated
* Assists with the formal review for possible sentinel event related incidents to include completion of RCA (root cause analysis) of event
* Assists to ensure that all information is shared to all functional units of the health system in relation to risk management
* Assists RM staff with the coordination of the variance event reporting system for review and analysis of all reported
* Assists with conducting a review of each reported occurrence and prepares a monthly report, by category
* Works with appropriate staff and Institutional Environmental Health Officer for immediate reporting of any safety concerns that require urgent attention
* Conducts the medical review of customer complaints and reports results. Assist with the resolution of issues
* Assists with complying quarterly organization-wide risk management data for conversion into a reporting format
* Functions in a leadership role on the Emergency Management Team as designee of the Risk Manager
* Consults with the multidisciplinary group to include Institutional Environmental Health Officer, governing body, medical staff, key directors, and departmental managers in order to make informed decisions affecting current and expected operation needs as designee of the Risk Management Department
* Assists Risk Manager with oversight for the day-to-day activities for risk management and data collection
* Provides evaluations and management of any potential compensable events, risk, investigations, reporting, and claims management
* Works with the Risk Manager to direct risk management activities, patient safety, and Joint Commission activities related to patient safety
* Provides medical staff, administration, and all services with information pertaining to CNDH safety/risk issues and patient satisfaction
* Assists the Risk Manager with oversight of investigations and notification for patients in regard to abusive behavior incidents or controlled substance restriction
* Ensures participation of self and staff in continuing education opportunities for risk management
* Answers routine inquires and makes appropriate referrals concerning customer needs
* Assists in the development and direct orientation programs, in-services and continuing education for all organization staff
* Communicates appropriately and clearly to physicians, staff, Nurse Executive and administration on required staff educational needs
* Interacts professionally with the nursing staff, nurse managers and other department managers to determine specific educational needs and to coordinate educational programs to meet those needs
* Participates on the Patient Safety Action Team
* Provides first class customer service to both internal and external customers and responds to inquiries, compliments, and/or complaints with professionalism, courtesy, and efficiency
* Completes all training and development requirements and participates in continuing education opportunities
* Works in a collaborative and supportive manner to support the productivity and safety of the work area, team members and customers of all types
