POSITION PURPOSE:
This position is responsible for supporting the ongoing execution of Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) programs. This individual will work closely with the EHS Manager support and adhere to policies, goals and objectives of the company. The EHS Specialist will assist with inspections, audits, training, monitoring, and reporting to maintain compliance with applicable regulations
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES
- Environmental Compliance
- Assist with permits, testing, and reporting.
- Data collection and tracking of EHS metrics.
- Safe Work Culture & Training
- Coordinate employee and contractor training programs
- Work with employees and contractors to ensure they are properly trained to perform the work required in a safe manner.
- Support EHS Manager in working with department managers to maintain best work practices to promote a strong safety culture.
- Observe work activities and recommend improvements to ensure employees, assets and the environment is protected, and facility complies with federal state and local regulations.
- OSHA, Reporting, Audits
- Maintain OSHA logs and assist with compliance reporting.
- Support internal and external audits.
- Respond to requests for EHS data as needed
- Work with employees to ensure plant is maintained in a clean, professional manner. Report any potential issues to EHS Manager.
- Regulatory Communication
- Support communication with regulatory agencies during inspections, audits, and permit updates.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor’s degree from four-year college/university in a related scientific or technical field, or relevant experience required.
Required Knowledge
& Experience:
2-5 years’ work experience supporting EHS programs in a manufacturing facility, with exposure to PSM work environment.
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office suite required.
Knowledge of general office equipment required
Valid Driver’s License required

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION:
Time will be spent in a temperature-controlled office-based environment at the manufacturing facility. Ability to sit for long periods of time. Able to view computer screen for lengths at a time. Time will be spent in the plant. All types of chemical industry equipment are used in the plant to include, but not limited to fermentation vessels, jet cookers, agitators, mixing and milling equipment, distillation columns, centrifuges and distributive control systems. May be exposed to loud noises, wet and humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic chemicals, extreme hot and cold depending on weather conditions. Must be able to speak and listen clearly. PHYSICAL STRENGTH:
This job may require lifting of up to 50 pounds occasionally.
