Rotational Engineer - Project Development (SLC)
Are you a recent graduate or are you within one year of graduating from a Civil Engineering program? Are you looking for an opportunity to learn different areas of transportation engineering? If so, the Utah Department of Transportation's Engineering Rotational Program is for you. This is up to a four-year program for non-licensed engineers with limited engineering experience.
About the Role
You will learn engineering principles in a variety of areas including design, materials, hydraulics, planning, right-of-way, structures, traffic, construction, etc. You will then learn how to apply the knowledge and techniques of advanced mathematics and engineering to the planning, designing, development, and construction of transportation projects.
Position Information
- Salary: Engineer II - $40.24, Engineer I - $35.93 (criteria below)
- FT/PT Status: Full Time
- Background Check: You must successfully pass a criminal history check.
- Schedule Code: TL - Career Service Exempt (at-will)
- Location: Calvin Rampton Building, 4501 South 2700 West, Taylorsville, Utah

Key Responsibilities
- Participate in a variety of activities throughout the engineering project lifecycle, including feasibility studies, materials research, design and concept development, scoping, environmental assessments, safety planning, specifications, scheduling, and revisions.
- Assist in the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of transportation facilities.
- Monitor and evaluate contract and contractor performance to ensure compliance with specifications; recommend corrective actions for deficiencies.
- Collect and review research materials, ensuring the accuracy, validity, and appropriateness of all data sources.
- Prepare engineering and design documents using computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment.
Qualifications
- The qualifications for the Engineer I level are:
- A bachelor's degree, or higher, in a Civil Engineering or related engineering discipline.
- Proof of passing the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam (FE).
- The qualifications for the Engineer II level are:
- A bachelor's degree, or higher, in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Proof of passing the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam (FE).
- At least two years of post-graduate engineering experience.

- UDOT experience (internship)
- Less than 2 years engineering experience
- Recent graduation date
