    Primary Purpose:
    To provide a speech/language assessment for all referred students; to develop, implement, and evaluate
    speech therapy services for all students who meet the eligibility criteria for enrollment in speech/language
    therapy.
     
    Qualification:
                                    
          Education:
    • Master’s degree in communication disorders from an accredited college or university and successful performance on a national exam in speech-language pathology.
    • Valid Texas license in speech-language pathology.
         Special Knowledge/Skills:
    • Ability to use formal and informal evaluation measures to assess and evaluate communication disorders
    • Knowledge of evaluation, habilitation, and rehabilitation of speech-language disorders and conditions.
    • Ability to align speech and language goals and activities with a student's curriculum and education program.
    • Ability to instruct and manage student behavior.
    • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
          Major Responsibilities and Duties:  
    1. Assist in the collection of referral information/data for students who are suspected of having a speech and/or language impairment.
    2. Conduct complete individual evaluations to identify students who may be eligible for speech and language services.
    3. Provide recommendations to the ARD committee to determine eligibility based on district eligibility guidelines.
    4. Conduct re-evaluations of identified students in accordance with state and federal regulations.
    5. Translate evaluation data into an instructionally relevant speech and language program that is aligned with the district’s curriculum and the student’s education program.
    6. Develop and ensure full implementation of Individual Educational Plans (IEPs) for students with speech and/or language impairments as determined by the ARD committee
    7. Plan, schedule, and implement all direct and/or indirect services as needed.
    8. Collect ongoing data during speech therapy to determine progress on the IEP goals and objectives.
    9. Maintain service-related records, progress notes, and nine-week reviews.
    10. Adhere to all district, state, and federal timelines.
    11. Maintain instructional control and manage student behavior.
    12. Case manager and/or participates as a member of the ARD committee.
    13. Function as a consultant in speech and language and communicate with parents and staff as required.
    14. Attend staffing of children served, as needed.
    15. Provide parent training in the area of speech and language, as needed.
    16. Take part in district professional development and public awareness presentations.
    17. Attend and participate in professional development opportunities designed to enhance the skills of the special education staff. Assume responsibility for continuing education units required for licensure renewal.
    18. Attend all meetings required by the campus and the special education department.
    19. Assume responsibility for the content, organization, and confidentiality of state eligibility folders.
    20. Supervise licensed assistants in speech-language pathology, Clinical Fellowship Year/licensed interns, and university practicum students as needed.
    21. Serve as a mentor for other speech/language pathologists, as needed.
    22. Follow district procedures for the Medicaid SHARS program including participation in the Random Moment Time Study when selected.

    Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (under 15 pounds), occasional heaving lifting (45 pounds or more) and positioning of students with physical disabilities; controlling behavior through physical restraint; assisting non-ambulatory students
    Environment: Exposure to biological hazards, bacteria, and communicable diseases; may require district-wide travel
    Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); interpret policy, procedures, and data; coordinate district functions
    Other:  Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures; Other duties as assigned
