Job Description

Ag in the Classroom Educator

Purpose:

Are you passionate about agriculture and eager to educate students about how agriculture impacts their life daily? Do you thrive in an energetic and collaborative work environment? Mitchell County Farm Bureau is seeking an Ag in the Classroom Educator who embodies these qualities and more.

Basic Goals:

  •          Introduce Iowa agriculture to each elementary school in the county and encourage agriculture to become part of the regular curriculum. 
  •          Maintain communication among the ag community, school boards, administrators, teachers and staff. 
  •          Emphasize a positive attitude towards agriculture. 
  •          Provide information to classroom teachers and serve as a resource for teachers/curriculums. 
  •          Represent Farm Bureau and emphasize the connection of Farm Bureau in the AITC program.
  •  Essential Functions

·         Create and promote awareness of how agriculture can be integrated into curricula by meeting annually with educators and school personnel. 

  •             Develop and/or update existing curriculum and lesson plans.  Include the Farm Bureau brand on materials distributed to educators and sent home with students.
  •             Conduct classroom presentations to create and promote awareness of agriculture and agriculture careers with students and staff.

·         Develop and maintain a social media presence for the Mitchell County Farm Bureau AITC program to reach a variety of audiences, promote and support agricultural literacy education programs and initiatives.

·         Initiate networking opportunities for furthering agricultural literacy education.

·         Organize and coordinate supplemental programs, utilizing volunteers.  Priority programs include Ag Fair, Rural Roadway Driver’s Education, and participation in the ISU Extension   Farm Safety Day and school STEAM festivals. 

·         Prepare reports for the county Farm Bureau board of directors, AITC committee, and community stakeholders to highlight program successes and goals accomplished.  

·         Organize educational supplies and keep inventory.

  •             Maintain up-to-date records of contact hours of programs, presentations, and outreach efforts.
  •          Grow and maintain relationships with the educational community including Agriculture/FFA advisors.

 What We're Seeking:

 

  •          Degree preferred in Education, Agriculture or other related field of study.
  •          Proven classroom experience, presentation, organizational, and analytical skills is highly desirable.
  •          Enthusiasm, flexibility, professionalism, and a passion for agriculture are a must.
  •          Strong oral and written communication skills.
  •          Experience or skill creating visual aids, social media graphics, informational flyers, etc.
  •          Knowledge or background in agriculture is a plus.

Additional Details:

  •          This role is a contract position working up to 625 hours per year. Approximately 60-70 hours per month during the school year.
  •          Hours will be mostly in (May-August) and only a few weeks needed in the summer.
  •          Based in Osage, Iowa with programs conducted throughout Mitchell County.
  •          Flexible work schedule, self-managed schedule.
  •          Background check will be required of the successful candidate.
