Job Description

Job Summary: 

The mission of the binder is the application of thin strips of plastic to the slot routed around the edge of the guitar body. Binders do so in order to provide an aesthetically pleasing accent to the guitar, as well as protect the edge from damage. Alternating patterns and thicknesses of binding provide a unique look to each series of Gibson guitars and vary from a single black strip to more ornate abalone inlays.

Essential Functions:

  • Learn and execute standard operating procedures. 
  • Must be able to lift, move, and bind a guitar.  
  • After training is complete, a binder will bind to the required output according to the model mix. 
  • This role is physically demanding on back, arms, and shoulders.  
  • 95% pass rate based on production requirements.  
  • Understands and meets quality standards (Specs.)  
  • Maintains product flow at appropriate rate.
  • Adheres to department protocols (5S and Safety)
  • Adherence to the Gibson Cardinal Safety Rules as per the Gibson Playbook for Cardinal Safety Rules and General Safety Rules
  • Obligation to submit Safety observations for identified hazards using the safety observation QR code
  • Support the comprehensive Safety Management System (SMS) to ensure a safe work environment, maintain compliance with regulations, and improvement of our safety processes
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • Experience with using hand tools to deliver precise results required
  • General knowledge of guitar construction required
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.

Physical Demands:

  • Basic physical stances and actions (sitting, standing, walking)
  • Must be able to stand entire shift.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds
