The Public Works Apprentice position is a temporary 3-year work training program, with the potential for additional training programs designed to cross train and help individuals establish skills that will help build a career. While the City cannot guarantee full-time employment after completing the Apprentice program, many employees who have held similar positions have gone on to full-time Public Works careers.

Position Duties
Under direct supervision, progress through the 3-year work training program to become a well-rounded member of the Public Works Department:
- Collect refuse, recycling, and yard waste
- Operate all types of heavy equipment, such as scooters, rear packers, and hook lifts
- Become familiar with routes through refuse collection and snow operations
- Participate in training initiatives, such as landfill safety and dumpster emptying

Minimum Qualifications
- Familiarity with using hand tools and power tools/equipment
- Good driving record and must be able to attain a CDL License Class B with Air Brake Endorsement
- Ability to work alternate work-hour schedules for winter, weekends, and when workload dictates
- At least 18 years old
- The ability to perform strenuous physical lifting and work in all weather conditions
