Job Description
Overview:

IR Seeker Engineer

LOCATION: Columbia, Maryland

JOB STATUS: Full-time

CLEARANCE: Secret Clearance

SEG supports the US Navy and Missile Defense Agency (MDA) by performing trade studies, design prototyping, and analysis of radars, EO/IR sensors, RF seeker systems, electronic warfare systems, and weapon systems.  For this position, we are seeking an experienced IR Seeker engineer to support the development of a digital representation of the IR seeker for inclusion in deliverable simulations to our government customers and end-users.  The ideal candidate has 6 to 10 years of IR seeker systems engineering experience including IR seeker physical design, signal processing design and analyses, and seeker testing, and an active TS clearance. The position is based in Columbia, MD but may require on-site support at customer locations.

The candidate will be responsible for understanding customer requirements, supporting a team of engineers and software developers to design and develop simulation solutions, and demonstrating that capability to our government customers and other critical stakeholders. Additional responsibilities include:

  • Identifying and evaluating critical design points, such as seeker windows, lenses, filters, and focal plane array design, and relating these to physical design of the seeker.
  • Designing and documenting the IR sensor concept of operations, including the modes of operation and their corresponding timelines, the operating wavebands, and scan patterns.
  • Implementing signal processing algorithms, including detection, track, discrimination, and decision logic.

Required Skills:

  • Candidates must possess at least a bachelor of science (BS) degree in a technical discipline such as Electrical Engineering, Physics, or Mathematics.
  • Candidates must have at least 6 years of experience (4 years with a Masters, 2 years with a PhD) related to the design or analysis of electromagnetic sensors.
  • Strong Matlab or Python skills
  • Strong people skills and technical leadership experience are a must.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to learn rapidly and work independently and on a team
  • Must be a US citizen and be able to obtain and hold a clearance

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Active Top Secret clearance
  • Experience performing IR system modeling, performance prediction, and data analysis
  • Experience with image-based detection, track, and discrimination algorithms
  • Experience with the application of ML/AI algorithms to detection and discrimination
  • Familiarity with seeker window/dome design and nonlinear optics
  • Focal plane array designs and analysis
  • Graduate-level coursework and/or hands-on project experience in IR sensors and signal processing
  • Prior experience with sensor HW design, signal processing, tracking algorithms, and/or resource management
  • Experience in sensor modeling and simulation including algorithm and software development
  • Experience in development of simulation tools and test tools for sensor analysis
