Job Summary

The School of Education at The University of Southern Mississippi (USM) invites applicants for four (4) tenure-track positions (3 assistant professor rank, 1 assistant or associate rank) beginning August 2026 with requirements to be physically present on the Hattiesburg campus.
We aim to recruit applicants who will emphasize training students to become productive and thoughtful researchers and practitioners. Area of research interest is open. This position will primarily support the Ph.D. in Research, Evaluation, Statistics, and Assessment as well as other graduate programs within the School. These programs include master’s, specialist, and doctoral degrees. Courses include face-to-face, online, and hybrid delivery formats. Qualified applicants will be prepared to contribute to the mission of the School of Education at the graduate level.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities  

  1. Teaching and mentoring graduate students in research classes across programs.
  2. Contributing to the mission of the university and profession through service activities.
  3. Conducting and disseminating high-quality independent research
  4. Performing other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications 

The ideal candidate for this position will have:

For assistant rank:
A Ph.D. degree in Educational Research, Educational Psychology, or closely related field (by August 2026).
Evidence of scholarly potential

For Associate rank:
A Ph.D. degree in Education Research, Educational Psychology, or closely related field AND 5 years of experience in a tenure track position or equivalent.
Evidence of research success reflected in scholarship and funding history.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Experience setting clear performance expectations and provision of meaningful feedback in higher education
  • Experience and/or familiarity with technology use, particularly in the online learning environment in higher education
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver accurate, concise and quality communication (verbal and written) in a timely manner to everyone. 
Preferred Qualifications  

Preferred qualifications include:

For Assistant rank:
Experience teaching graduate educational and interdisciplinary research and/or statistics courses.
Preparation to teach measurement; advanced quantitative courses that may include data analytics, data science, machine learning; survey and mixed methods research; or other quantitative areas.
Experience mentoring student research.
Evidence of scholarly potential.

For Associate rank:
All of the above plus:
Promotion in rank as higher education faculty
University leadership experience
