About the Department

The City of Lodi is seeking candidates for Assistant Aquatic Manager.  This is a part-time, seasonal position. Under the guidance of the Aquatic Manager, the Assistant Aquatic Manager assists in the management of areas related to the outdoor pool. TThis management includes, but is not limited to, evaluating operating hours, coordinating Lifeguards, and assessing Lifeguards. The Assistant Aquatic Manager will also fill the active role of a Lifeguard when scheduled during pool open hours. 

The 2026 summer season starts in late-May or early-June (due to training) and finishes in August.

Position Duties

General Statement of Job

Under the guidance of the Aquatic Manager, the Assistant Aquatic Manager assists in the management of areas related to the outdoor pool. This management includes, but is not limited to, evaluating operating hours, coordinating Lifeguards, and assessing Lifeguards. The Assistant Aquatic Manager will also fill the active role of a Lifeguard when scheduled during pool open hours.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists with the safe operation of all aquatic services, including compliance with State health codes
  • Assists with training, supervision, and evaluation of Lifeguards
  • Helps maintain the weekly Lifeguard schedule
  • Assists with monthly Lifeguard in-service training
  • Maintains pool related records and reports
  • Communicates with Aquatic Manager about any situations which need immediate attention to ensure the safety of staff and patrons
  • Assists in monitoring staff certifications and helps keep staff current in all certifications
  • Ensures patron satisfaction and handles complaints and concerns
  • Enforces all rules and regulations of the outdoor pool to ensure the safety of staff and patrons
  • Lifeguards during pool open hours
  • Performs various maintenance duties and other assigned duties as directed to maintain a clean and safe facility
  • Other duties as assigned by the Aquatic Manager

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum education: Two-years of high school; High school diploma or GED equivalent, preferred
  • One-year related work experience in direction of pool staff
  • Two or more years of experience Lifeguarding
  • Possess current Lifeguard, First Aid, and CPR certification
  • Strong interpersonal, organization, and communications skills, including the ability to establish and maintain working relationships with employees and the public
  • Ability to work with individuals of all ages, creeds, and abilities
  • Ability to assist in efficient and accurate maintenance of records and helps meet reporting deadlines
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions

  • Identification as a lifeguard that consists of an orange tube, swim suit, sweat shirt, or jacket with bold word, “Lifeguard”

Statement of Working Conditions
Work is performed primarily at an outdoor pool and occasionally in an office setting.  The noise level varies from quiet to noisy.

Reports To:   Aquatic Manager
Supervision Exercised:   Lifeguards (in the absence of the Aquatic Manager)
