Richmond National is a specialty property & casualty insurance company focused on providing insurance to small and mid-size businesses that are unable to find coverage in the standard insurance market.

 

We operate exclusively within the excess & surplus lines market, which provides our underwriters flexibility to develop highly tailored policies to best meet the insurance needs and risk management objectives of our customers. 

 

Requirements

 

  • Underwriting and binding of new and renewal business, and overall management of assigned brokers, territory, and policies
  • Review small to mid-size complex risks to verify acceptability based on company underwriting appetite and your underwriting authority.
  • Determine whether to accept, provide an option(s), or decline risks. Oversee, review, and approve endorsements.
  • Direct loss control services on specific issues for better risk assessment
  • Utilize underwriting tools to determine accurate classifications, rates, and premium charges.
  • Review and resolve premium audit inquiries and disputes.
  • Communicate with brokers to develop opportunities, obtaining additional information when needed and to promote underwriting appetite for risk.
  • Create, analyze, and interpret information from various reports.
  • Develop positive working relationships with brokers, through daily interactions and travel to brokerage offices.
  • Contribute to training, mentoring, and on-boarding of new or less experienced team members.
  • Handle other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and two or more years with authority in excess and surplus lines and/or equivalent combination of education and relative underwriting experience
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrates an understanding and ability to effectively engage in the negotiation process.
  • Demonstrated technical knowledge and skills reflective of progression of positions of increasing responsibility.
  • Previous insurance educational work, IIA and CPCU designation strongly preferred.
  • Detail oriented with a drive for success and the ability to collaborate effectively and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Advanced knowledge of computer programs, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
