Position Overview:

Q Microwave, a leader in the precision RF manufacturing, design and manufacture of cutting-edge military and defense microwave solutions, is seeking an Assistant Controller to join our entrepreneurial, collaborative, and fast-paced team located in El Cajon, CA. The Assistant Controller is responsible for managing the accounting, budgeting, and financial reporting functions of the business unit in compliance with corporate, regulatory, and GAAP standards. The role supports day to day operational need of the finance department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform monthly cost accounting close: standard cost updates, variance analysis, inventory reconciliations, and cost of goods sold (COGS) reporting.
  • Maintain and update standard costs, bill of materials (BOM) and routings in the ERP system; validate costing roll-ups and effective date changes.
  • Analyze labor, material, and overhead variances; investigate root causes and recommend corrective actions to operations and procurement.
  • Prepare monthly inventory valuation and aging, conduct perpetual inventory reconciliations, and support physical inventory/cycle count activities.
  • Support product margin and profitability analysis; provide cost inputs for pricing decisions and new product introductions.
  • Ensure cost accounting policies, controls, and documentation comply with corporate accounting standards and audit requirements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive cost reductions, process improvements, and implementation of costing best practices.
  • Prepares monthly financial packages
  • Maintains and oversees Sarbanes Oxley compliance and testing requirements
  • Performs and revises hard close procedure quarterly
  • Maintains a document system of accounting policies and procedures
  • Provides financial analysis as needed, in particular for capital investments and pricing decisions
  • Coordinates the provision of information to external auditors for the annual audit

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizenship required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
  • 5-10  years of progressive responsibility and experience in a multi-functional manufacturing environment.  Must have a Solid General Accounting, Cost Accounting, Forecasting and Planning background
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage sensitive information

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active Security Clearance or ability to obtain
  • Knowledge of export regulations including ITAR and EAR
  • Previous work in a cleared facility or defense industry
  • Understanding of physical and cyber-physical security controls
  • Effective written and verbal communication driving collaboration and teamwork throughout the organization

    • Collaborative team setting with frequent interactions with engineers and other technicians.
