Job Description
The Newport News Quality Assurance Technician is responsible for conducting raw material inspections in accordance with HACCP principles and established company policies and procedures, and for inspecting finished products to ensure compliance with all published quality standards.
 
Specific Accountabilities: 
  1. Responsible for inspection of all raw materials and random inspections of commodity items.
  2. Schedule inspections based on FIFO standards as well as on production and sales requirements / requests.
  3. Responsible for data storage and records maintenance.
  4. Perform random sampling of products according to required inspection sample size.
  5. Enter text and grade inspected products in JDE and Boss systems.
  6. Order product from outside warehouses that are needed for Quality Assurance inspection.
  7. Inspect returned product for quality and disposition accordingly.
  8. Other responsibilities as assigned by department manager.

 

Job Specifications: 

  • Food Science education desirable, but not essential.
  • Basic understanding of food processing environment.
  • Good math skills.
  • Computer experience especially Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Understanding of statistics helpful.
  • Good odor, flavor, texture and color perception.
  • Works effectively with other people.
  • Requires minimum supervision.
