Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

The Buyer I is responsible for supporting the procurement of maintenance, repair, and operating (MRO) materials to ensure uninterrupted plant and facility operations. This entry-level buying role focuses on executing purchase orders, maintaining supplier relationships, monitoring inventory levels, and supporting cost, quality, and delivery objectives. The MRO Buyer I works closely with maintenance, operations, and inventory teams to ensure timely availability of materials while adhering to company policies and procedures.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Purchase MRO materials and services in support of maintenance and production needs
  • Issue and track purchase orders; follow up on delivery schedules and shortages
  • Maintain item, supplier, and pricing data in ERP/MRP systems
  • Monitor inventory levels and support replenishment and cycle counting activities
  • Communicate with suppliers regarding pricing, availability, lead times, and discrepancies
  • Resolve invoice and receipt discrepancies in partnership with AP and receiving
  • Support continuous improvement, cost control, and standardization initiatives
  • Ensure compliance with procurement policies, safety standards, and ethical sourcing guidelines

 

REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Internship or entry-level experience in purchasing, procurement, or logistics
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, Dynamics, or similar)
  • Exposure to inventory management or supplier coordination
  • Progress toward professional certifications such as CPSM or CPIM

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field
  • OR equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience
  • 0–2 years of experience in purchasing, supply chain, or a related administrative/business role
  • Basic understanding of purchasing, inventory management, and supply chain principles
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook); experience with ERP systems preferred
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet strict month-end deadlines.
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
