The ESG Officer will support the development, implementation, and monitoring of the OSI Optoelectronics’s Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) strategies with a primary focus on local operational compliance and data collection within the manufacturing facility. This role is crucial for ensuring local compliance and supporting global sustainability initiatives, providing an excellent opportunity for a passionate individual to grow their career in corporate sustainability.
Responsibilities
1. Environmental Stewardship
- Data Management: Assist in collecting and analyzing data related to energy consumption, water usage, and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across the manufacturing facility.
- Program Implementation: Support the implementation of waste reduction, water conservation, and energy efficiency programs.
- Project Management: Lead and manage sustainability projects, such as waste reduction programs and energy efficiency initiatives.
- Certification & Audits: Maintain records and prepare documentation for environmental audits (e.g., ISO 14001).
2. Social Responsibility & Culture
- Training: Help organize and track employee training on ethical practices, health, and safety.
- Welfare Documentation: Assist in maintaining documentation related to employee welfare, community engagement, and social responsibility initiatives.
- Supply Chain: Support the due diligence process for supply chain partners, focusing on ESG, sustainability program compliance, and risk assessment.
- Internal Culture: Develop and deliver training programs to educate employees on ESG practices and policies, and foster a culture of sustainability within the organization.
- Participation: Participate in ESG and Training programs and activities.
3. Governance, Compliance, and Reporting
- Compliance: Ensure compliance with all relevant environmental regulations and standards.
- Reporting: Assist in preparing and gathering information for the company's annual Sustainability Report.
- Record Keeping: Maintain organized records of compliance documents, certifications, and internal audit findings/reports.
- Regulatory Monitoring: Stay up-to-date with Malaysia and international regulations pertaining to ESG and manufacturing practices, and keep abreast of changes in ESG regulations and best practices.
- EcoVadis: Assist in gathering data, documentation, and submission for EcoVadis.
- Progress Tracking: Schedule meetings with the respective PICs (Person-In-Charge) and follow up on the improvement progress.
4. Risk Assessment & Stakeholder Engagement
- Risk Assessment: Conduct ESG risk assessments to identify potential environmental, social, and governance risks.
- Mitigation: Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies.
- Opportunity & Risk Awareness: Stay informed about emerging ESG risks and opportunities.
- Stakeholder Relations: Engage with external stakeholders, including investors, customers, suppliers, and community groups, to communicate the company's ESG efforts.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with internal teams to promote and implement sustainability initiatives.
- Representation: Represent the company at industry conferences, workshops, and other events related to sustainability.
- Evaluation: Evaluate the effectiveness of sustainability projects and make recommendations for improvement.
- Coordination: Coordinate project teams, set project timelines, and ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
5. General Administration
Ad-hoc Duties: Complete any other tasks as assigned by the EHS Manager in a timely manner.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Sosial Science, Finance, Sustainability, or related field (master's preferred)
- 2-5+ years of experience in ESG management, sustainable finance, E & S consulting or related roles.
- Strong knowledge of ESG frameworks and standards such as IFC, GRI, SASB, ISSB.
