Job Description

The Reliability Inspector ensures that the refinery fixed equipment is reliable and safe to operate.

  • Monitors the fitness-for-service, safety and reliability of plant fixed equipment through thickness condition monitoring programs and visual inspections.

  • Inspects fixed equipment and piping.

  • Develops piping and fixed equipment inspection plans, in accordance with API 510 and API 570, using rule-based and risk-based methodology.

  • Interprets and evaluates inspection and NDE data.

  • Evaluates corrosion monitoring data, predicts equipment life and adjusts inspection intervals as required.

  • Maintains complete and accurate records during inspections so they can be transferred to the permanent files.

  • Develops and maintains fixed equipment inspection procedures/practices.

  • Reviews design/fabrication drawings and performs fabrication shop/field inspections

  • Provides inspection technical support to Operations, Maintenance and other refinery groups.

  • Monitors and directs the daily activities of outside inspection contractors during turnarounds and special activities.

  • Inspects and monitors all repair and construction work to ensure it is being done per the plans and adheres to all inspection specifications and applicable codes.

  • Participates in the application of Risk Based Inspection (RBI) for equipment and piping.

  • Monitors and reports on the activities and quality of contractors in conjunction with their QA/QC representative.

  • Commits to providing out of hours on-call cover and work extended hours during busy periods.

  • Works 12 hour days or nights, including weekends and holidays during turnaround work.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • This is a full-time site-based role based in Pembroke, South West Wales.


  • Industry Inspection Qualifications; API 510, 570 and working knowledge of all ASME, ANSI, API & NB codes.

  • 3 years of experience in the inspection of fixed equipment and piping systems required.

  • Bachelor’s and/or Engineering degree preferred.

  • Basic knowledge of metallurgy, corrosion mechanisms and refinery processes.

  • Knowledge of NDT techniques and their application.       

  • Knowledge of Pressure Systems Safety Regulations, Pressure Systems Design and the Pressure Equipment Directive.
