Schedule: Monday - Friday 0800-1700 with weekends, holidays, on-call, and other shifts as needed.

Location: Socorro Hospital

JOB SUMMARY:

Supervises technical and/or section staff. Schedules and trains employees. Responsible for

ensuring the efficient operations of the day-to-day activities including personnel supervision and

support. Monitors QA, QC, proficiency and competency as assigned. Assist the Supervisor,

Manager, or Director and appropriate Medical Directors. Work closely with appropriate

medical/scientific directors(s) regarding decisions on matters relating to patient care, technical

performance, quality and finances.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Responsible for the supervision of section staff.

a. Interview candidates and work with department supervisor/manager and Human

Resources (HR) in personnel selections.

b. Conduct employee performance evaluations on a timely basis as directed by

supervisor/manager. Regularly communicate with employees regarding their

performance and counsel them according to direction by supervisor/manager and

HR.

c. Monitor department workflow. Ensure section personnel are scheduled in

effective and efficient ways within the budgeted FTE allotment.

d. Ensure that employee time cards are reviewed for attendance, tardiness, and

correctness, approved and turned in to Payroll in a timely manner as specified by

the department protocol.

e. Conduct employee counseling and disciplinary actions as directed by

supervisor/manager. Recommend disciplinary actions and work with department

supervisor/manager and H.R. in determining appropriate actions.

f. Carry out appropriate staff recognition programs.



2. Perform routine duties of department / section as needed. Be able and willing to fill any

department / section position as workload or staffing require.

3. Coordinate and/or conduct training for employees, students and for section staff as

directed by supervisor/manager. Direct and facilitate employee participation in

continuing education programs in coordination with supervisor/manager.

4. Maintain appropriate channels of communication within the department.

a. Provide information to section staff regarding job expectations, relevant

information concerning workload, work flow, process and procedure changes and

general information.

b. Provide feedback to section staff regarding their performance. Provide

constructive criticism in a timely and appropriate manner. Let employees know

when they are and are not meeting job expectations. Provide guidance to

employees on how to improve performance. Keep supervisor/manager informed

of any performance based problems for ongoing direction and follow through.

c. Listen effectively and with the purpose of understanding employee concerns,

questions, ideas and opinions. Actively solicit staff input and feedback.

d. Participate in and assist in coordinating department meetings on a regular basis.

e. Communicate with staff in a courteous and respectful manner.

f. Meet on a regular basis with supervisor/manager for goal setting, feedback,

direction and follow through.

5. Participate in quality assurance programs to ensure that quality standards are met.

Demonstrate ability to constantly improve quality standards. Prepare QA reports as

appropriate. Lead, facilitate and/or participate in Quality Management and other process

improvement teams as directed.

6. Maintain effective communication and coordination with other departments.

7. Maintain an up-to-date understanding of new requirements through continuing education.

8. Actively support and assist in the implementation of department procedures, policies and

strategies to support the corporate vision, values and strategic plans.

9. Take steps to ensure that the department is in compliance with all relevant regulatory

requirements as directed by supervisor/manager. Communicate potential compliance

issues to the Compliance/Privacy Officer and supervisor/manager.

10. Review workflow daily to determine areas of backlog. Problem solves to resolve any

issues and respond in a timely manner.

11. Ensure timely response to customer inquiries. Effectively assess problems and develop

solutions.

12. Assist staff members with questions and problem-solving issues.

13. Provide and prepare reports for the department supervisor and/or Manager as requested.

14. Handle all correspondence in a timely manner.

15. Mentor and develop all leads in their leadership roles.

16. Maintain and update section procedures and policies as directed by supervisor/manager.

Addendum for Value Stream Section Supervisor:

1. Define, implement, and supervise to sustain, standard work for technical staff, support

staff, and value stream leaders.

2. Implement and monitor the use of visual controls necessary to manage lean processes.

3. Conduct daily meetings to review production-tracking data, daily accountability, and

assign action items.

4. Employ structured root cause analysis to expose and solve problems.

5. Conduct and participate on kaizen or process improvement teams to constantly improve

processes.

6. Ensure lean laboratory production by maintaining lean management practices.

MINIMUM EDUCATION:

Meet one of the following:

  • Associates Degree in biological or chemical sciences/laboratory sciences or equivalent.
  • Bachelor�s degree in biological or chemical sciences/laboratory sciences or equivalent.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:

Meet one of the following:

  • Bachelor�s Degree with two (2) years relevant experience to the section for Clinical Areas.
  • Associate Degree with four (4) years relevant experience to the section for Clinical Areas.

PREFERENCES:

  • Bachelor�s degree with at least two years relevant experience to the section for Clinical Areas preferred.
  • At least one year of supervisory experience.
