Job Description

Summary/Objective

The Child Care Director position reports is responsible for planning, organizing, implementing, coordinating, and controlling the services of the early childhood education program, exercising independent judgement and decision-making authority, including fiscal management, policies, procedures and staff supervision. The work of the Director involves a mixture of leadership and management responsibilities, including budgeting, community outreach, and child and staff recruitment. Competencies are needed to provide both operational and pedagogical leadership to the program.

Essential Functions

Responsible oversight includes that accountability and assurance is met through the following duties:

  1. Oversee a learning community using recommended practices for all children that includes those with disabilities and families of diverse cultural, ethnic, linguistic, and socio-economic backgrounds
  2. Consistent, transparent communication with staff and families through multiple methods of communication: email, phone, meetings, newsletters, video, etc.
  3. Administrative oversight and observation of staff, interaction techniques, environmental setting, and compliance of KDHE licensing regulations
  4. Direct supervision, coordination, and evaluation of staff 
  5. Prepare program grant proposals and direct program operations in a manner consistent with the requirements of partner or funder contractual agreements, regulations, and funding documents
  6. Coordinate and determine personnel actions such as employment, retention, promotion, and termination based on recommendations from appropriate personnel
  7. Implement internal and external reporting systems and procedures. 
  8. Use evaluation data to inform decisions to maintain, correct, and/or improve delivery of program services
