SUMMARY
Provides structured academic and behavioral support to students in grades 1st -12th as needed by teachers in the classroom, hallways or any area in which Longmore programming occurs. Ensures the physical and emotional well-being of students through positive direction and role-modeling, and otherwise contributes to an effective and positive school environment by performing the following duties. Mentors assigned paraprofessionals.

Paraprofessional Responsibilities:

Provides positive approaches and structure in the guidance and direction of students.

Monitors students to ensure compliance with classroom and school procedures.

Communicates with the other Longmore staff as well as students’ parents as necessary, regarding student academic, behavioral/emotional needs or progress.

Provides assistance to teachers as necessary with the classroom preparation and/or subject delivery, including outdoor activities and physical education.

Reports to the appropriate teacher, supervisor or to the Principal any inconsistencies, conflicts or problematic situations that arise.

Escorts and monitors students between Longmore Academy and other campus facilities.

Assists students with the use of appropriate communication, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.

Provides appropriate de-escalation responses to students as necessary, and leads others in following appropriate response methods. This includes physical restraints when needed and their proper documentation.

Maintains the safety and cleanliness of the school environment.

Acknowledges students when entering the facility or classroom.

Conducts student searches each morning and otherwise as necessary.
Lead Paraprofessional Responsibilities:

Mentor new paraprofessionals throughout their first school year, while also providing comprehensive support to existing staff in the areas of behavior management, and assigned administrative duties.

Prepare for and lead weekly Friday review meetings with para staff to discuss current student concerns, progress, and overall staff/student needs.

Notify supervisor of any ordering/needs of classroom areas.

Fulfill maintenance requests for assigned areas of campus.

Work with paraprofessionals and teachers to problem-solve any classroom needs in a trauma-informed, positive and productive manner, providing realistic solutions and support.

Voice any paraprofessional concerns with the administrative team in a prompt and professional manner, and prepare to work with the administrative team to come up with solutions.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position provides mentoring and on-the-job training to assigned paraprofessionals and coordinates with assigned supervisor.
