Job Description

Tech Mahindra is looking for a qualified Full time Field Technician with excellent communication and technical skills to join our team.  The Field Technician is responsible for conducting Site Surveys, Installation/Commissioning/Integration and troubleshooting of Customer Equipment into existing racks.  This will include Running and testing of Cat5e/Cat6, Fiber Optics, Power and grounding cabling.  Must be capable in the methods of Cable Lacing , crimping and standard installation practices.  Installation and migration of equipment is completed in conjunction with timelines and requirements provided within the projects Scope of Work.  Candidate will be required to travel within their local Region with rental car or claim mileage. On some occasions it may be required to fly into a market and work contiguously on a site cluster.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performing Site Survey and Site Redline using existing engineering design package.
  • Identify and track wireless telecommunications site installation elements via a Site Audit (Existing hardware locations, fiber, copper and power interface locations).
  • Develop solutions for installation of new equipment and decommissioning of old to include required construction, electrical and site prep.
  • Inventory of the delivery and discrepancy reporting
  • Installation of cell site equipment including Interior/exterior cabling such as grounding, Ethernet, Fiber, power, coax and circuit breakers.
  • Clean and Scope Fiber results for Customer records
  • Run and terminate all fiber, copper and power cabling utilizing proper intra bay management 
  • Perform terminal server and management network connectivity verification with a test

Engineer, confirming access can be remotely established with the equipment.

  • Labeling of all Ethernet and Fiber Cables per Customer Standards
  • Daily reporting of site-specific implementation progress to project management.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues with equipment.
  • Must understand Basic Network Technology as well as having an understanding of Access and Core Network equipment used in current networks.
  • Should have experience with Rack and Stack, troubleshooting, testing, and preventative maintenance of telecommunications equipment.
  • Ability to follow the method of procedures and reporting status, passdowns, and solutions
  • Verify port status on migrated equipment
  • Perform Installation walk through with Customer
  • Take Digital Photos of work completed for part of closeout package
  • Ability to work on their own and communicate effectively and professionally with the customer on a daily basis.
  • Ability to work Day shifts or Night shifts to be scheduled separately.
  • Previous telecom industry experience desired.
  • Previous use of Brady/Brother Printers.
  • Excellent time management and customer interaction skills.
  • Flexible to work under aggressive project timelines.
  • Comfortable in a self-directed environment.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Works aggressively on multiple job tasks to help meet timelines.
  • Ability to thoroughly document, report and communicate results.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as client specifications and requirements, procedure manuals, and reports.
  • Satisfactory results from a background/employment history investigation and drug screening.
  • Ability to complete on-the-job and/or classroom training as required.
  • Must be able to lift up to 80lbs.
  • Must be able flexible to work within an assigned market as assigned by the field supervisor.
  • Should have experience with wireless telecommunication equipment installation and integration.
  • Understanding of proper cable routing.
  • Should have experience with Windows utilizing a laptop to set up console HyperTerminal sessions using FTP client software and configuring TCP/IP settings.
  • Must be able to communicate successfully through emails and conference calls.

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Associate’s degree (AA) from a two-year college or technical school; with 2-5 years of applicable telecom installation experience in a highly aggressive field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

LANGUAGE AND COMMUNICATION SKILLS

  • A team player with great communication skills with clients’ staff and team members is a must.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • The field technician will work primarily from inside Customer Buildings/offices. 
  • We will follow all CDC Guidelines in which any extra Customer Directives/Guidelines will supersede.
